Why this job matters
This role is to work as a junior software engineer in a multi-disciplinary team of technical experts keeping core elements of the UK's internet working. Specifically, this role holder will develop and maintain software components that manage the parental controls' behaviour and other network elements' aspects. The role holder will work on various projects, deploying new infrastructure controls and maintaining the deployed base. In addition, the role holder will design software elements and advise on the design of over-system designs.
As a Software Engineering Professional, you will work on integration software for BT’s recursive DNS platforms supporting all broadband subscribers. This role is core to all Broadband services and value-added products such as Content Filtering and various deliveries. This role offers a hybrid work model (3 days onsite at our London, Ipswich or Birmingham offices, and 2 days wherever you want).
What you’ll be doing

  • Support the design and development of software solutions in accordance with the broader architecture and security standards.
  • Work on integration software for BT’s recursive DNS platforms supporting all broadband subscribers
  • Undertake technical reviews to continually update knowledge and skills in software engineering principles and practices, ensuring a base level of technical specialism proficiency to enable industry and quality standards to positively impact work and customers.
  • Support with the designs of technical specifications and development of software solutions for smaller and less complex initiatives in partnership with the team, contributing towards the quality of delivery.
  • Write tests and review code, refining and rewriting as necessary under the supervision of engineering specialists and colleagues involved in the project.
  • Integrate existing software products and solves routine problems to enable incompatible platforms to work together
  • Maintains systems by monitoring and correcting software defects
Skills and experience you'll need

  • Highly skilled in one or more of the following scripting languages: Python, Ruby, Go
  • Experience using Ansible, Docker framework
  • Experience using Agile methodology
  • Experience with Linux and Linux packaging
  • Knowledge of DNS
  • Networking experience
  • Experience with OpenStack or similar technology
