What you'll do
We need to expand the team to develop new features for the Sky Glass and Sky Stream devices. This could include working on browsers and Application runtimes, RDK middleware components, REST API services covering the internal software stack and external services, Voice Search, Application lifecycle management, Audio/Video pipeline enhancements, Bluetooth devices, and a variety of analytics and telemetry engines.
- Collaborating with various stakeholders to determine software requirements.
- Providing the development team with architectural blueprints to follow.
- Guiding and assisting the development team throughout the process.
- Working with an experienced and versatile team of engineers.
- Developing and integrating application framework and RDK software components.
- Improving browser support for Apps such as Disney+, iPlayer, and Spotify.
- Working directly with partners such as YouTube and Netflix to integrate SDKs.
What you'll bring
- Leadership skills as a tech lead.
- Excellent C++ knowledge and skill (latest language features such as C++11 and C++14).
- Python and/or JavaScript programming experience.
- Hands-on experience of Linux and shell scripts.
- A preference for software development in an Agile environment using TDD.
- Good understanding of design patterns and object-oriented programming.
- Problem solving and good communication skills
And ideally:
- Work experience relating to a set-top box or streaming product.
- Understanding of the network stack (TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP), REST API, JSON, and GNU toolchain (particularly make files and cross-tools).
- Knowledge of Docker and Qt.
- Web browser development (e.g., Webkit, QtWebEngine, Blink, Chrome V8, Cobalt).
- Audio/Video streaming fundamentals (e.g., MPEG4, HLS, MPEG-Dash).
