The Article team is highly strategically important team. This team builds the backend content ingestion for our Article content and the complex frontend rendering for the Article page and associated components. This team is central to many of ScienceDirects core Initiatives/Objectives
1.Support the user in reading articles
2.Discoverability of new Articles
3.3rd Party Content Ingestion SEO and Traffic optimization
4.Lead generation to other Elsevier products
About the Role
We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Software Engineer Lead to line-manage and support a team of Engineers. You will work with the Product Owner to lead this team towards a positive culture while maintaining high engineering standards. You will have extensive skills in designing and building applications in Java or Node and a positive attitude towards cross-functional teams. You will be part of a cross-functional product development group using agile management and engineering practices.
Responsibilities
Managing and coaching a team of engineers. Create and be part of a fantastic team culture- Working as part of a highly collaborative, cross-functional, agile product development team to design and develop new micro-services in our web application and improve existing functionality and performance
- Building a nimble, cloud-based microservice architecture
- Encouraging best practices and apply software engineering principles
- Working with Product Managers and QA to ensure software is high quality and meets user requirements. Write well tested, documented and peer-reviewed code
- Training and mentoring more junior developers
Requirements
Have experience in with Core Java and/or JS Development- Possess Agile experience with Scrum/Kanban/XP
- Experience in Software development process expert with agile engineering practices such as TDD, Pair Programming, Continuous Integration, automated testing and deployment
- Have positive, constructive approach with an emphasis on collaboration and good execution
- Show solid knowledge of architectural principles
- Display advanced problem-solving experience
- Have Cloud computing knowledge (preferably) AWS, but GCP or Azure also considered)
