Job Description Summary
Aims to deliver the highest quality customer driven software whilst continually challenging, motivating, mentoring and supporting their engineering teams. They will work in cross-disciplinary teams delivering exciting customer driven solutions and high quality software and showcase excellent interpersonal and communication skill whilst efficiently working across the project life cycle to ensure software operates as intended. This is a leadership level role and will blend both deep domain and technical expertise within a feature team and great passion for coaching and developing people in a “player-coach” model.

Our Insurance , Pensions and Investments (IP&I) Labs are focused on improving support to our customers throughout their financial lives, with clear, straightforward customer journeys, helping empower them to make the right decisions on their long-term Saving, Investment & Retirement needs.
About the role:
As a Senior Software Engineer you'll join a lab who are focussed on building a market leading Corporate Pensions (Workplace) proposition. The role, within our Employer team, will require you to utilise your skills to build new digital features - possible examples being on demand video, analytics & insight and direct payroll integration – whilst transforming the application architecture to be micro-services based. As a strong advocate for driving engineering excellence you’ll work collaboratively with other team members, partners and third parties to build empowered teams who are motivated to solve business problems and realise value to customers.
So what are we looking for in you?
  • Providing technical leadership by supporting, training, and mentoring software engineers
  • Keeping up to date with technical advances to drive innovation
  • Leading software development lifecycle processes and standards improvement
  • You will lead the software development in the team, establishing high technical standards and ensuring high code quality and consistency
  • Broad and deep technical experience with a passion for engineering excellence
  • You will work with the Engineering Lead and Solution Architects, to drive technical strategy to solving technical challenges and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • You're a dynamic and adaptable individual, able to use and learn new skills in varying circumstances.
We'll be specifically looking for these skills on your CV:
  • Solid understanding of the entire software development lifecycle and experience in end to end delivery of software products.
  • Extensive experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of working as part of an agile team
  • Strong software development background essential, along with knowledge of modern software development toolsets including Cloud hosting, Containers, Kubernetes, Web App development, API’s, DevOps Continuous Integration and Delivery.
  • You'll have an understanding of the entire application stack, and significant exposure to modern web technologies, especially Node.j and ideally, React.js.
