Job Description
The Role & Essential Responsibilities
Technical: Working to rigorous development standards you will leverage your extensive software engineering experience and knowledge to execute a robust process to develop requirements, architecture, design, implementation and perform verification of embedded software solutions for complex power distribution systems . You will be comfortable working with Customers and other engineering functions to capture and document software requirements. The team will look to you to define software requirement flow down and verification strategies in conjunction with the Systems engineers to ensure the most efficient solution. You will then support and empower the teams to execute the strategy. You will provide input for new product bids and proposals. You will thrive on a variety of challenges and be able to balance multiple priorities across more than one product if required, ensuring best practice is followed across all.
Expertise, Coaching and Teaching: You will be committed to inclusion and diversity and passionate about coaching and technically developing engineers to reach their potential. As a senior staff engineer you will continue to develop your own specialized knowledge and be aware of latest technical developments. You will be authoring, reviewing and approving technical documentation, as required, ensuring compliance with the relevant engineering policies and procedures and standards. As a member of the department leadership team you will contribute towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility. You will work with other specialists within GE Aerospace to improve Company procedures and best practice.

Planning and Delivery: You will provide support to project leadership in planning activities to ensure that the technical scope is accurately captured. You will work to agreed plans and hold yourself and others to account for the agreed priorities and milestones.
Customer Focus: You will effectively collaborate with the customer and other engineering teams and stakeholders to understand the impact of any system changes on the software. You will present software aspects in internal and external technical and program reviews.
Continuous Improvement: You will be committed to continuous improvement and have awareness or proven experience of applying lean principles and tools to improve the team’s impact. You will feel comfortable leading structured problem-solving projects as required to understand and correct identified problems.
Qualifications / Requirements
- A degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
- Previous embedded software experience working within complex system designs in an aviation, automotive or similar embedded systems development environment working to rigorous standards (e.g. RTCA DO-178B/C, DAL level A or B, or similar) .
- Previous experience in leading team-based projects and/or providing technical direction and coaching to less experienced staff.
- Experience of defining successful technical strategies and best practices that improve execution and team capability.
- Proven ability to solve complex problems autonomously or as part of a cross-functional team.
- Experience of applying lean or similar improvement methodologies to improve team performance.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to document, plan, and execute programs.
