Join our simulator support team in RAF Benson where you’ll be providing software support including development, maintenance, and fault finding for state-of-the-art flight simulators for the RAF.
You’ll be presented with novel challenges to solve. You could be developing code to implement new flight systems to the simulator, integrating new functionality, or fault finding to maintain the availability of the simulators.
You’ll be working with unique equipment with the latest (and sometimes bespoke) technology which naturally leads to new problems, so we’re looking for you to be a strong problem solver and thrive in solving engineering challenges.
Your role will involve:
- Maintaining software aspects of simulator environment
- Assisting with onsite integration, installation, test and acceptance
- Providing software trouble shooting and debugging support of simulator software deficiencies and liaise with various engineering groups in the clearance of defect reports
- Responding to simulator deficiencies and working with the team to identify trends and respond with corrective actions
- To adhere and maintain software configuration control procedures
- To undertake, upon request, the maintenance of any software and hardware tools comprising CAE’s software development environment
- Interact with the customer to identify and resolve integration problems
- To maintain security control of all software systems.
- Maintain the highest level of simulator availability
What you’ll need:
- Experience of writing either C++, C, or Fortran
- Scripting experience (BASH/ CSH)
- Networking experience (TCP/IP)
- Ideally degree qualification or equivalent experience
- Ideally some experience in Unix/Linux

Working hours:
This is a shift work position. You’ll work one week of early shifts (06:00 – 14:30), and one week of late shifts (14:30 – 22:00) in a rotation.
This is to ensure continual operation of the simulators for our customers.
What kind of person would succeed?
A natural willingness to explore, innovate, and come up with solutions. You’ll be constantly presented with new challenges, software issues, breakdowns, and there’s not always a set way to deal with a particular issue, but this team will work together to diagnose and fix the issue. No two days are the same!
Security requirements:
You must be able to obtain or transfer SC clearance (likely to require 5 years of UK residency). You may also be able to transfer non-UK security clearance from overseas.
