software developer Royal Leamington Spa, England
Job description
Presto Music is an industry-leading online global retailer of recorded music (physical, digital and a streaming service), sheet music, instruments and books
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic PHP Software Developer to join our in-house team to work on our current website, app, APIs, and back-office systems. You would be part of a team of five developers who are responsible for delivering new functionality, enhancements as well as maintenance of existing systems. We also sometimes work with external developers and consultants where specific areas of expertise are required.
Our website, back-office systems and API endpoints are based in a modern object-oriented structure built on a custom framework. We make extended use of Elasticsearch for our web and API endpoints. We also have an integrated streaming service that uses Node.js to deliver audio content through our React-based mobile and web applications.
You should be able to work in a team and be able to work independently. You will work with colleagues to define and agree the specifications of a task before proceeding. Attention to detail is vital. You should also be comfortable working in a modern object oriented (OO) codebase, but able to work with legacy procedural code when required. We are open to adopting new methods and technology (where beneficial) and like fresh ideas.
A good understanding of MySQL databases is desirable, and you should be comfortable writing efficient queries as well as manipulating complex data.
The development team runs under an Agile methodology with 2-week sprints. Retrospectives are an important part of the cycle and we're always looking to improve and change.
