Software Developer
Salary: From £32,000 per annum (negotiable depending on experience)

Location: Hybrid - flexibility to work from home or at any of our main hubs (London, Bristol, Cheltenham, Manchester and Harwell)

About the role:
As a member of a scrum team leading on development and ensuring that quality is built into our product by working closely with the Product Owner and other stakeholders.
Communication, technical knowledge and coding ability are key skills needed for this role. Ideally, you’ll be a full stack developer and able to demonstrate some of these key skills we'd expect you to bring to the role:

The Software Development Group works closely with the different product families in Jisc to create products that meet their vision and the users’ requirements. Focussing on technical innovation and software delivery, we pride ourselves on building the right thing and building the thing right. We do this using agile methodologies, with continuous testing, architecting, integration, delivery, and validated learning.

- Write reusable, testable and scalable code to a high standard.
- Collaborative pair programming sharing knowledge.
- Experience of working as an integral part of a scrum team.
- Actively learns, adopts, and shares knowledge on best practices of software development and testing.
- Ability to implement solutions that always considers security and maintainability.
- Work with users, product owners and team members to understand requirements, and help translate these into development tasks.
- Demonstrate application features to users, either face to face, or remotely.
- Follow internal processes and standards for managing software development across its lifecycle, from initial design to regular feature releases and bug fixes.
- Understands and seeks to create CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
- Consistently provides accurate estimates to deliver on time and within estimate.
- Consistently delivers quality work that passes QA standards, in most cases, first time.
- Conducts manual and automated tests against work to ensure it meets customer expectations.
- Works with the team to expand knowledge and experience and retain this to help onboard new starters.

- Ability to develop expertise in new languages and technologies as required.
- An ability to explore technology solutions across the technology stack.
- At least two years’ experience in a software development environment
