Job description

When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help children and young people (0-25) and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. Join us and your skills will make a real difference to the lives of young cancer patients.

About the role

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Social Worker to provide support to children and young people diagnosed with cancer and their families. The role is Permanent for 17.5 hours per week.

Our work is rewarding but also complex and demanding; you will need to be resourceful and resilient. You will work closely within our supportive Young Lives vs Cancer team, an established NHS multi-disciplinary team and with services in the community.

Young Lives vs Cancer is open to and in support of flexible working. Your flexibility requirements and that of the role will be discussed at interview stage with you.

This role falls under the hybrid - variable category. You will have the opportunity to work remotely/from home within the parameters of our hybrid working arrangements but majority of hours will be based at the Belfast Office and will involve travel across NI to hospitals.

This role is subject to a Criminal Record Check. In the event of a successful application a Disclosure report will be sought.

As well as current Northern Ireland Social Care Council registration you will have:

  • Experience working with children, young people and their families/carers in a social care setting
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Knowledge of child and young people development
  • An understanding of the impact of serious illness for children, young people and families.

All applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills.
