Youth Worker
Band 5 £30,229 - £37,664 pro rata
10-months fixed-term,
part-time (15 hours per week)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Youth Worker to work in Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS). The fully integrated service is composed of Chalmers Centre and up to 10 local clinics (pre-Covid). It provides Tier 4 and 5 specialist sexual health services working across 4 Community Health and Social Care Partnerships meeting the needs of 80,000 patient attendances per annum. The service is open Monday to Thursday 08.30-20:00 and 08:30-16:30 on a Friday. The hours will be flexible with an expectation of evening work.
The post holder would be expected to support young people attending the HR+ Service which can include Genitourinary Medicine, HIV, Contraceptive, unplanned pregnancy. Though the service is Sexual Health focused a good knowledge of holistic health issues is required as many health issues can arise. There will also be an Outreach element to the post, which will involve working in local communities via our Outreach Bus.
A Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion or Community Education. Experience of working with the general public and delivering health promotion and interventions. Applications from people of all ages are welcomed, subject to meeting the relevant criteria. We are looking for a someone who is non-judgemental, friendly, excellent team worker, person centred approach, ability to use initiative and work independently; effective communication skills and a willingness to work unsocial hours and travel independently to local clinics throughout Lothian.
Experience of working with young people and/or delivering health promotion activities and interventions and experience of using MI techniques to promote behaviour change.
