Multimedia Designer / Social Media Content Creator

(All Positions at The Pemberton BC, Canada Museum are all on-site, With no remote work available)

Reports to: The Curator & Museum Supervisor

The Pemberton Museum staff team is made up of a dynamic group of individuals dedicated to sharing the history of Pemberton with our community and the world.

Terms of employment: Seasonal Full-Time, $17-18/hr. depending on experience

June 6, 2023 – September 5, 2023 / 32 hrs. per week (including Saturdays)

Overall responsibility: The Multimedia Designer / Social Media Content Creator is a motivated, fun-loving, team player that will produce thoughtful, innovative digital content designed to create impactful online experiences for donors, guests, and online viewers, reflecting the mandate of the Pemberton Museum.

The ideal candidate for the position will be curious, creative, outgoing, eager to learn, and willing to become an ambassador and storyteller (both in person and through collection and exhibits). The ideal candidate should additionally possess a keen interest in art, local histories, and the educational role of museums and cultural institutions.

*The museum will provide guidance and access to tutorials and training but some experience with social media content creation and/or video editing is preferred.

Social Media Designer:

Works with the management team to define short-term and long-term marketing goals and develop content strategies that meet those goals for each platform. they will create photo and video content designed to capture customer and community interest. They will help write and review content for websites, social media pages, YouTube, and public communications.

  • Capture video and photos during day-to-day operations, special events, and programs at the museum. Curate and maintain museum social media including Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok.
  • Maintain consistency in content and ensure alignment with the museum’s mandate and strategic plan.
  • Update the website and social media channels weekly.
  • Measuring and monitoring museum website and social media channels and using traffic statistics and SEO to achieve maximum engagement.

Multimedia Designer:

Create high-impact, short and long-form videos using in-house resources.

  • Photograph and video museum day-to-day operations and special events.
  • Curate and maintain museum photo and video libraries.
  • Collect and edit digital content including videos and digital photos.
  • Manage YouTube and other online channels.
  • Assist with the creation of online exploratory activities for children of varied ages.

Guest Services:

  • Greet guests and connect them to the museum, local history, upcoming events and activities, and educational resources onsite and online.
  • Other duties as required including day-to-day operations and opening and closing duties.

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • High school and/or post-secondary education
  • Professional, reliable, a good communicator, and a team player.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Willingness to learn the role with online training and tutorials.
  • Experience or strong interest in videography and photography, website maintenance, digital media, and social media content creation.
  • Some experience with photography, and video clip management software.
  • Experience with MS Office; especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Physical requirements include: working outside, lifting, moving, or carrying objects of various weights and dimensions, climbing stairs, using a step ladder, standing for long periods, walking on uneven surfaces, and doing desk work.

Additional skills that will assist applicants in this role:

  • Comfort speaking and engaging with the public (children, adults, and people from around the world)
  • Speaking/writing languages in addition to English
  • An understanding/direct experience of local indigenous culture, protocols, and language (Stl’atl’imx)

* This position is dependent on funding from the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Thus, the successful candidate must meet the following criteria: be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada by relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulation.
