ABOUT US

The British Business Bank is an established and influential institution with a key mission of driving sustainable growth and prosperity throughout the United Kingdom. It plays a vital role in supporting access to finance for smaller businesses, facilitating their development and contributing to the transition towards a net zero economy.

Since its inception in 2014, the British Business Bank has functioned as a government-owned economic development bank, operating independently to fulfil its objectives. It collaborates with over 200 delivery partners, including high street, digital, specialist, and challenger banks, venture capital and private debt funds, as well as fintech platforms, to implement its programs effectively.

With offices in Sheffield and London, the British Business Bank currently employs approximately 550 individuals.

As an organisation that values flexibility, wellbeing and collaboration, the British Business Bank introduced a hybrid-working model in 2020. Our colleagues typically spend an average of 2 days per week working in our offices, striking a balance between the advantages of remote work and the benefits of in-person collaboration. The successful candidate for this role should be able to commute to either our London or Sheffield offices

THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a social media expert to lead and shape the social media estate at the British Business Bank during a period of growth. The primary purpose of this role is to lead the development and implementation of the social media strategy across the British Business Bank group of companies, which includes British Business Bank, British Business Investments, British Patient Capital and Start Up Loans, ensuring the content is clear, engaging, represents best practice and supports overall business objectives.

Reporting to the Communications Director, you will be part of the award-winning Communications team whose role is to build and enhance the Bank’s reputation by showcasing its programmes and impact through the lens of its strategic objectives, research reports and programme evaluations. The Communications team also supports the Market Engagement and Transformation strategy to support access to finance for smaller businesses with social media playing a key role in inspiring and unlocking opportunities for business growth. This role is focused on commercial (customers and delivery partners), stakeholder (political and public policy) and business (investors, trade associations, SMEs) audiences and works at both a national and regional level.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in a similar organisation or marketing team in-house or leading a brand or organisation’s social media channels in an agency environment with a demonstrable track record of success. You will lead the planning and distribution of content across a range of channels aimed at corporate and direct-to-SME audiences. An ability to tailor content to different audiences with different tones of voice is key.

You will work closely with other members of the Communications team to bring PR campaigns, report launches and key milestones to life on social media in an engaging, motivating and inspiring way, drawing on your creative and digital skills and will be confident leading relationships with agencies.

You will understand the importance of business reputation and will have experience of community management in a crisis environment. Detailed knowledge of the social media landscape and strong instincts on when to intervene in a digital crisis are key.

You will also be confident in analysing and reporting on social media performance and presenting to key internal stakeholders on latest social media developments and audience trends, therefore excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Professional marketing and or communications qualifications are desirable, with support for professional development provided through the Government Communication Service.
