The Vacancy

We are looking for a new Social Media Journalist to join our growing team!

In this role you will be responsible for newsgathering via social media, responding to breaking news, writing stories for PA’s newswire and working with all parts of the PA newsroom – including News, Sport, Showbiz and Features.

You will work to ensure social media content is used effectively by all of PA, deputising for the Social Media Editor when required. You will also be responsible for ensuring a regular flow of stories on PA Media’s Uplifting channel, supporting the production and curation of positive news stories.

You will help to curate PA’s output across its social media accounts and generate ideas for new and innovative ways of telling stories via social media and sharing our news agency’s words, pictures and video.


Whilst your job title and job description indicate your principal responsibilities, you may from time to time be asked to carry out other work that is within your capability and capacity. Members of staff will not be asked to undertake other tasks unreasonably and there will always be opportunities to expand your experience across PA’s other editorial teams.


Who you are:

A great written and verbal communicator
Passionate about social media
Interested in News, Current Affairs and Storytelling
Self-motivated and creative, with plenty of story ideas
Organised
Able to build strong relationships with key individuals and organisations


What we need from you:

NCTJ qualification or equivalent.
Track record of delivering imaginative content.
Ability to write high quality at speed.
Experience in hard news writing and breaking news.
Good understanding of web and social analytics.
An established social media presence.
Relevant knowledge in the area of digital journalism.
