We have a rare opportunity to add to the team a Social Media and Publicity Coordinator for our independently-led community scrutiny Panel.

Are you passionate about using your social media and marketing skills to produce engaging written and visual content to share the importance of D&C Police scrutiny, transparency, accountability and equity with our local communities across Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly?

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the DCCS Panel’s mission which is; to act as critical friends to D&C Police; building trust and confidence between the police and the community they serve through scrutiny, accountability, transparency and training.
  • Increase awareness and panel recruitment by reaching a wider audience across the region.
  • Create, manage and publish regular content and messaging for all official DCCS Panel social media channels.
  • Coordinate content on social media sites that ensures a consistent message to the public that corresponds with the brand and mission of DCCS Panel.
  • Respond to comments / messages as required and report any actions to follow up, problems or negative social interactions immediately.
  • Demonstrate excellent judgement in determining content and timing for posting.
  • Liaise with web designers via Notion to review the current website, present new ideas / designs, source royalty-free content, and communicate ideas effectively with the DCCS Panel Core Team.
  • Develop original concepts designed to meet our mission objectives.
  • Market and promote the work of the DCCS Panel to local organisations and key contacts.
  • Work with minimal supervision as a member of the creative team.
  • Communicate and collaborate with volunteers who assist.
  • Communicate as required (by phone, in person, via email) with DCCS Panel Lead Admin and Chair.
  • Occasionally attend meetings with panel members to present and discuss social media strategy
  • Attend Stop & Search and Use of Force Scrutiny training.
  • Attend Stop & Search and Use of Force Scrutiny Sessions the first Tuesday of every month, 7-9pm.
  • Treat all panel members, police liaisons and members of public with fairness, dignity and respect, seeking a spirit of unity and harmony as we join together to achieve our common mission.
  • Track and report social media analytics as required.
  • Assist in monthly newsletters if required and managing future endeavours such as podcasts.

Required Skills

Essentials:

  • Commitment to the mission and aims of the DCCS Panel.
  • Self-employed with own IT equipment.
  • Previous experience with social media marketing.
  • Excellent copywriting, spelling and grammar skills.
  • Good IT skills, particularly with managing websites and using social media to market and promote.
  • Must be proficient using Canva; strong visual eye for designing and creating graphics.
  • Marketing across all forms of social media. Excellent understanding of social media platforms and engaging website design.
  • Conversational skills and empathy; able to ask the right questions to facilitate engagement and answer questions about the DCCS Panel.
  • Well organised, detail-oriented and proactive; ability to meet deadlines while coordinating multiple projects and tasks.
  • Self-motivated, assertive personality who can operate effectively as an individual and collaboratively.
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to listen, adapt and incorporate feedback.
  • Embody values of caring and compassion, justice and integrity, competence and affirmation.

Desirables:

  • Marketing/Business/Behavioural Psychology or relevant degree preferable.
  • Knowledge of emerging media trends.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  • SEO experience is a plus.
