Social Media and Digital Officer
Fixed Term (9 - 12 months), Full Time
Up to £38,251 per annum

The Opportunity
Visit Essex is the official tourism and destination management organisation for Greater Essex with the remit to promote and develop tourism across the county. Tourism is one of the largest business sectors in Essex contributing £2.6billion annually to the region’s economy.
The team’s principal purpose is to work in partnership with the public and private sectors to support economic growth, through marketing and promoting the wider county as a place to visit, live and do business, and to continue to grow tourism.
Building on previous experience, running social media activity across a service, the role will require a strong understanding of what works on social media in terms of messaging and tone of voice, be adaptable and adept at working in a fast-moving and customer-first environment that relies on real-time communications. The role requires an individual who welcomes change and has a growth mindset with the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively across structural boundaries in support of key outcomes.
Accountabilities
Support the effective deployment of digital and social media platforms as part of an integrated approach to all communications outputs, working with the Tourism Marketing Officer to create content and manage external agencies as part of campaigns and general marketing.
Effectively manage existing Visit Essex digital platforms e.g. the Visit Essex website and social media channels for paid and organic activity.
Carry out regular checks of devolved social media communications to ensure they are consistent across all areas in terms of voice, branding, messaging, and frequency of posting.
Support marketing campaign design and delivery with social media and digital activity to ensure a demonstrable return on investment, ensuring that all campaigns are cost effective and meaningfully grow our target audiences to increase reach and financial impact.
Undertake regular evaluation of all social media activity, producing detailed reports, analysis and advice on a regular basis to inform future plans to effectively commercialise the service, and advising on SEO.
Responsible for social listening projects to increase engagement with local online communities as a way to better serve the needs of Visit Essex’s existing and potential audiences.
Identify best practice to amplify and to inform good practice for social media application within Visit Essex.
Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
The Experience You Will Bring
- Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelor’s degree) or equivalent by experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
- Demonstrable experience of running social channels in large organisations and an ability to understand social analytics and use data to inform strategy.
- Experience of curating user generated content and of training non-professional social media users.
- Proven experience in a Communications and Marketing advisory/consultancy role.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of the importance of quality assurance for social media activity.
- Experience of running social channels for a public sector organisation and using social listening tools and producing reports based on that data (desirable).
- Experience of multidisciplinary and cross-functional working (desirable).
