Job description
Cambridge University Libraries' External Engagement Team was established in 2019 to bring together the public and externally facing work at Cambridge University Library, including exhibitions, events, communications, fundraising and membership. Over the last few years, we have delivered the University of Cambridge's biggest-ever news story (featured in more than 6,000 publications across the world), welcomed up to 100,000 visitors a year to exhibitions in Cambridge, and toured our first exhibition, which was seen by more than 250,000 at the New York Public Library. We are passionate about delivering engagement work at one of the world's great research libraries, and are inspired by the astonishing breadth of the collections and the variety of research and learning that takes place here, from world-leading academics and writers to family historians and students at all stages of their learning.
We are a small but ambitious team and are now recruiting for three new roles: Social Media and Communications Co-ordinator, Participation Manager, and Head of Audience and Visitor Services. This is an exciting time to join us, as we are still developing our vision, understanding what works for our audiences, and building our team. At this stage of our development, we need colleagues able to work to the best effect with the resources that are available at the time, as well as help us to build our vision and plans for the future.
The Social Media and Communications Co-ordinator will develop, programme and publish engaging content across our primary channels (currently Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn), sharing posts encapsulating the incredible variety of collections, research and study that takes place at the University Library and sharing content from colleagues across the Faculty and Departmental Libraries network at Cambridge. We need a colleague with the drive and creativity to grow our community of 125,000 followers.
For all roles, applicants from a range of sectors and backgrounds who have relevant and transferable skills are warmly welcome. We think these roles need to be based primarily on-site, but we are open to hybrid and flexible working. The current team works a variety of patterns including part-time, full-time, compressed hours, and different home working days. We want these jobs to work as well for the people who do them as they do for the organisation, and are open to discussing all options.
A love of libraries and a belief in their power and importance is essential.
This post is 0.5 FTE with some flexibility up to 0.6 FTE if preferred, and working days and pattern will be agreed to suit both the candidate and the organisation.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.
