Job Purpose
- Ensure that our club members & Guests receive a professional bar and cellar service including any private functions held. Manage the day to day running of the club whilst open. we have a main function hall and two smaller members bars
- With the support and direction of the Committee, you will manage the running of the club opening, deliveries and staff hours
Main responsibilities
- Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the club bars and main hall through out our licensed hours with your Assistant Steward
- Control and be accountable for all bar stock purchases and sales, working with and reporting all finical dealings to the Club Treasurer
- Be responsible for the banking of all club takings and other monies
- Manage and supervise with Assistant Steward all bar staff, bar operations including keeping all bar area's clean and tidy at all times
- Provide cellar management (we have a smart dispense system) and stock holding
- Coordinate booking enquiries and functions in conjunction with the entertainments manager
- Be the second call key-holder should there be an alarm or any other emergency needing to attend
Skills and competencies
- Good interpersonal skills. Able to deal with a range of customers, including a few who may display challenging behaviour, in a calm and business like manner
- A reliable, trustworthy person who takes responsibility and has the ability to organise, lead and manage a team of quality bar staff.
- Numerate and has relevant finance skills for bar steward operations
- Basic IT skills using basic office apps
- Proficient in all Health and Safety in relation to all bar operations
- Willing to occasionally work long hours (linked to private functions)
Accountability
- The club steward/stewardess reports to the Club Secretary, and is directly accountable to the Club Management Committee for the operation of the bar and cellar service.
Required experience:
- Experience of Pub/Club bar management with responsibility and experience for both stock and staff, MUST have a minimum of 2+ years in pub and social club management environment
Required Qualifications:
- National certificate for personal licence holders (NCPLH)
- Cellar & Bar Management Qualification (Desirable)
- Health and Safety and, ideally, First Aid, (Desirable)
Availability
- The post will become vacant at the second week of May Ideally an earlier start may also be possible, in a transition/handover capacity from the existing steward.
Job Type/Salary
- Full-time 40 hours per week (weekends/evenings/bank holidays), payment is competitive and dependent upon experience plus possible over time.
