The role
We are looking for an Data Scientist to join our team who can apply analytical, problem-solving, and coding skills to our various retail data sources in order to extract valuable insights. Within the role you'll use data science techniques to build efficiencies and improve processes that enable the insight team to run campaign evaluations faster and more accurately.
This position will work closely with our retail partnership Boots Media Group and will integrate into the Boots data science team in order to ensure we are making best use of the available data in our targeting and evaluating of retail media.
What you'll be doing
We pride ourselves on creating challenging and exciting opportunities, meaning that no two days are the same. However, here's an idea of what your responsibilities will look like:
- You'll leverage 1st party data (and other data) to create an indepth understanding of campaign performance including, but not limited to the following:
- Building audience control versus exposed groups in order to evaluate the impact of onsite or offsite media campaigns
- Identifying new metrics that enable a deeper, more long term understanding of campaign performance i.e. (CLV, CAC etc)
- Trial new approaches to measuring campaigns that delivers insight across how various channels such as offsite (i.e. social) onsite (i.e. banner) and instore (i.e. digital 6 sheet) work together to drive uplift for the brand
- Alongside members of the insight team, be the go to expert in:
- Methodologies for evaluating offsite media (eg Meta) using 1st party data
- Statistical approaches for campaign measurement
- All data that feeds into our proprietary tool, Plan-Apps (working with various teams to ensure this data provides actionable insight)
- Drive automation through data science techniques
- Proactively work with the team to identify opportunities to improve our processes to enable faster delivery of evaluations
- Identify solutions such as APIs that will enable the faster processing of data into our proprietary tool Plan-Apps
What you'll need to have / be
- Preferably a degree with strong quantitative elements (i.e. includes statistics modules), such as Data Science, Mathematics)
- Previous experience as a data scientist that demonstrates abilty to work with large datasets
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills - you will be presenting complex results to less technical audiences
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience of analysing retail data and marketing metrics is preferable
- Proficiency in a coding language such as SQL, R, Python etc.
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as PowerBI

The process
- We will invite you to a first interview which we try to keep relatively informal, so it gives you the opportunity to share your authentic self. The hiring team will be looking to understand more about your experience and why you're interested in working with us.
- There will be a second interview which will last a little longer, and involve some form of task to showcase your ability to do the role.
- We then invite you to a meet & greet which is an opportunity for you to meet the team you'll be joining and ask them questions about the role and wider business.
