As a result, we are expanding and looking to employ a Smart Energy Consultant to join our Smart Energy Code Administration Service (SECAS) team. This role will give you a unique insight into smart metering, one of the government’s key initiatives to support the drive towards Net Zero. It’s a complex and challenging arena, and this role will give you the opportunity to play your part in such an important initiative. Location London Office (hybrid working) Salary Range competitive salary, depending on experience plus excellent benefits package Employment Type Basis Full time Ref No 962 THE ROLE As a Consultant within our Smart Meter Security & Privacy team, you will be working on one of our Major Accounts in a dedicated team whose responsibility is to assure the security of smart meter devices, as defined in the Smart Energy Code (SEC) – the rulebook for smart meters. In your role, you will support end users (SEC Parties) to guide them through the Security Assessment process, responding to their queries clearly and efficiently, in order to support them in adhering to their SEC obligations. You will take ownership for ensuring the smooth running of the digitalised Security Assessment Tool and booking process, ensuring any issues are identified and resolved efficiently and effectively, and will play a key role in the development and testing of any subsequent phases. You will also support specialist Security committees (the Security Sub-Committee (SSC), and Smart Metering Key Infrastructure Policy Management Authority (SMKI PMA)) attended by industry professionals, where highly confidential items and sensitive topics are discussed. To support these meetings, you will ensure that meeting documentation and minutes are accurate and well written, and that the Independent Chairs of these meetings are well supported. You will also support the maintenance of risks and issues which have cross Sub-Committee impacts, ensuring that we have an appropriate strategy in place to tackle these. In support of SEC Panel, you will also support the drafting of materials for Privacy items for the Panel agenda, engaging with key stakeholders and/or third-party suppliers for their inputs, and reviewing minutes to ensure they are accurate and well written. RESPONSIBILITIES Acting as a SECAS representative at the SSC and SMKI PMA meetings, supporting the team leader in ensuring the Sub-Committee SEC obligations are fulfilled; and providing cover for Privacy representation at SEC Panel meetings if required. Building strong client relationships with the independent Chairs and industry stakeholders; Drafting meeting papers and reviewing documents to ensure accuracy, consistency and quality; Monitoring the SSC mailbox, responding to queries promptly and clearly to support SEC Parties in understanding and meeting their obligations. Overseeing the smooth running of the digitalised Security Assessment Tool and the Assessment Booking Process, ensuring any issues are identified and resolved efficiently and effectively with Gemserv IT and its Third Parties, and supporting testing for subsequent phase releases; Providing triaging support for proposed SEC changes, identifying Security and Privacy impacts; Maintaining procedural documentation and work instruction manuals, and updating them as new requirements arise from SEC modifications and industry requests; Developing a working knowledge of governance and procedural requirements for the smooth running and operation of the Security Sub-Committees; Support the management of the Sub-Committee risk registers ensuring these are regularly reviewed and maintained, and escalations raised to SEC Panel as appropriate; Providing smart metering data analysis to industry meetings where applicable, and ensuring good quality of data analysis across the team; Liaising with industry stakeholders (Energy Suppliers, Network Operators, Shared Resource Providers, Other Users) to understand their needs and perspectives; Liaising with the Data Communications Company (DCC), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and Ofgem on the security aspects of the SEC; Maintaining and enhancing Customer Guidance and Communications to ensure format is accessible and engaging; Continuously improving the processes and products of the team with a focus on innovation; and Undertaking other activities as required by SECAS or the Independent Chair. REQUIREMENTS The successful candidate will: have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, able to understand and communicate complex issues and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders; be passionate about delivering an exceptional service to stakeholders and have well-developed stakeholder management skills with proven ability to manage upwards, downwards and influence peers; be digitally competent and able to present information in its clearest format for the intended audience; strive for excellence in their work being methodical, diligent and paying attention to the detail; have experience of drafting new and improving existing processes; have excellent planning and organisational abilities, be able to manage time and a varied workload and be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities; be proactive in identifying and addressing the client’s requirements; have a background in SMART metering and or experience in UK retail utilities (desirable) While not essential it is desirable that the candidate has knowledge of the Smart Energy Code (SEC) and understands the Security and Privacy requirements and obligations to support the Sub-Committee and SEC Parties in delivering their obligations.
