We are proud to announce that Vets now Glasgow is now accepting applications for an Internal Medicine /Oncology intern. This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with clinicians and expand your skills and knowledge in Internal medicine and oncology. We currently see a wide range of patients including IMHA, acute kidney disease, ureteral obstruction, cholangiohepatopathy, portosystemic shunting, acute gastroenteritis, diabetes mellitus and lower airway diseases, this will all be backed up with access to state-of-the-art equipment to help you learn as much as you can from this internship.

You will get an equal amount of time in each discipline this will give the best opportunity to explore both and get a clear understanding of the areas and which one you would chase for your future career.

About the opportunity

Interns must proactively engage in their own training and career advancement by attending pre-planned seminars, journal clubs and local ad-hoc teaching opportunities. They will also be responsible for working with clinical mentors to actively take part in research projects.

Interns will work with their supervising clinician to participate effectively in all aspects of planning, diagnosis, and treatment of cases. Animal welfare and the ethics of interventions must be considered by balancing practical and financial factors when determining appropriate patient care. Therefore, the ability to apply prior knowledge and experience to maintain the high clinical standards expected within our hospitals is essential.

Interns will openly engage in case discussions with the senior supervising clinicians, residents and senior nursing team and should contribute to a positive, informative, respectful, and inclusive environment for all. Attention to detail, particularly with maintaining accurate records and written correspondence is also a key component of this role.

The role will require working occasional Saturday mornings and bank holidays to support the clinic, however you will not be expected to work overnight or weekends on rota’s, giving you a great work life balance.

Who are we looking for?

To support the day to day running of the hospital under the direction of the supervising clinician, we require strong communication skills, compassion, reliability and professionalism coupled with the ability to prioritise and remain calm during challenging circumstances.

To be considered for this role, applicants must possess a Veterinary degree which is recognised by the RCVS, be a member of the RCVS and have completed a small animal rotating internship prior to commencement of this role.

Applicants must also be eligible to work in the UK and have the appropriate Visa documents. It would also be desirable that applicants provide evidence of competency in speaking English, as determined by a formal qualification in English (such as IELTS or TOEFL).
