Experienced skipper/ Deckhand
Responsible to: Marine Head of Department
Purpose: Responsible for the command of and safe running and maintenance of Company vessels. Responsible for the safe manning and handling of company vessels and assistance to skippers (Deckhand). Ensuring the health and safety and wellbeing of crew, staff, passengers and cargo.
- Boat crew needed for a high functioning organization based remotely in the Scottish Highlands. Adverse weather conditions mixed with an array of commercial marine operations.
- Individuals to be highly motivated, hardworking, adaptable in adverse weather and working conditions, time flexible, leadership qualities and works well with others.
- We are looking for an individual with experience being at sea on an array of different boats and knows and understands the basic workings and functions of boats in general.
- The fleet has 13 vessels in total covering all aspects including rebuilds and shipyard periods. Most works undertaken on site in house and any additional skills such as painting, sandblasting, diesel/outboard maintenance/ electrical, etc would be beneficial.
Key responsibilities/accountability:
General:
- Responsibility for the health, safety and welfare and safe passage and transport of all passengers on the vessel you will be operating.
- Ability to handle a variety of different vessels.
- Professional and courteous manner to all passengers, colleagues, and visitors.
- Be responsible for the transport of goods and fuel to and from the Island according to the delivery schedules.
- To maintain to the highest of standards the fleet as and when required.
- Have the confidence, communication and experience to navigate rough seas especially when carrying passengers. (Skipper)Have the ability to assist the skipper and other crew and control line work, tying up of vessels in adverse conditions.(Deckhand)
- To communicate efficiently with the wider team delivery times, passage updates and any Important Information as and when needed.
- To maintain and service all life jackets and ensure only using appropriately maintained equipment.
- To uphold strict safety standards for all crew, passengers and visitors when boarding and alighting all vessels.
- Ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with SIE’s Health and Safety policy and that the facilities and equipment are used in accordance with Health and Safety requirements.
- To deal with colleagues openly and always promote mutual respect.
- Any other duties which from time to time are deemed appropriate of the post.
- To operate in accordance with SIE priorities and compliance policies relating to Health and Safety, equal opportunities, and customer care.
Fast boat skipper experience/Deckhand experience is essential. We will also only consider applicants who have experience of navigating in the changeable weather of the North West Coast of Scotland.

Salary: £22,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
