Job description – Skilled GardenerA privately owned garden/estate surrounding a grade II historic property comprising of 5 acres of garden with trees, shrubs, perennial borders, orchard, kitchen garden, orangery, veg production glasshouse & polytunnels & 35 acres of paddocks & parkland. All maintained to the highest standard. We open the gardens annually for one weekend in late May for the National Gardens Scheme.Successful applicants will be part of a small team working with the owner, Estate manager/ Garden designer & head gardener.Previous experience on a private estate and horticulturally diverse gardens preferred. Professional Horticultural skills and qualifications are necessary including RHS qualification level 2 and spray certificate level PA1/PA6.Competence in the safe operation of common garden machinery is essential.A full clean driving licence is required for the commute to and from the rurally located estate.Typical duties will include but may not be limited to: -General garden maintenance and management of all plantingsSeasonal bulb plantingPruning of shrubs, plants, top & soft fruitAssisting with greenhouse management & maintenanceAssisting with irrigation, water features & swimming poolWeed & pest control through organic means where possibleAssisting with compostingAssisting with lawn cutting, aeration, fertilising, edging, verticutting & scarifyingAssisting with grass tennis court maintenanceOther estate duties are likely to include maintenance of gravel drives, york stone paths, waste disposal, garden sculptures, garden furniture, astro turf tennis court & assisting with maintenance of all garden machinery.Working Week Monday to Friday (40 hour week in winter 8am – 4:30pm, 42.5 hours in summer 8am - 5pm)Seasonal weekend work is shared on a rota basis for plant care only.Holidays 28 days holiday including bank holidaysStart Date As soon as possibleJob Types: Full-time, PermanentSalary: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year DOESchedule:Monday to FridayWeekend availabilityJob Types: Permanent, Full-timeSalary: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per yearBenefits:Company pensionSchedule:Monday to FridayWeekend availabilityAbility to commute/relocate: Welwyn: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)Experience:Gardening: 1 year (preferred)Licence/Certification:Driving Licence (required)Work Location: In personReference ID: Skilled Gardener, Near Welwyn
