Responsibilities for the job role:


  • To comply with Smiths policies and procedures to include the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • To assist in developing a programme to ensure targets are met at specified times as required by the clients programme and in line with Smiths requirements.
  • Ensure that all plant and materials required are ordered in a timely and accurate manner to allow completion of the task as required by the programme.
  • On-going discussions with Contracts Manager to ensure that sufficient numbers of personnel with the appropriate qualifications are available on site at all times to meet the programme.
  • Supervise and co-ordinate staff, Sub-Contractors, agency labour, material suppliers and utility providers to ensure an efficient method of work to the required quality and programme schedule.
  • Ensure that all permits are used as required and briefed to all relevant employees. Procedure for working with “LIVE” services to be followed at all times and insulated hand tools used.
  • Ensure that production targets are met whilst producing the highest quality of product and work ensuring costs are kept within budget.
  • Effective daily use of appropriate company Information Systems and databases to include the completion of site diary, daily allocation sheets and other site records.
  • Comply with Site Manager responsibilities as laid down in the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy and complete the relevant documentation on a weekly/monthly basis. Ensure RAMS are available and briefed for all tasks.
  • At all times comply with company policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Implement new ideas and methods and continue to seek ways of both improving contribution to the organisations targets and enhancing the reputation of the company.
  • Liaise with clients to ensure the highest possible Customer Care performance/ satisfaction and complete all relevant inspections and documentation.
  • Lead, motivate, communicate with, and develop the performance of staff to ensure they are fully motivated to achieve best performance to meet the needs of the company and site requirement.
  • Ensure that all personnel working on site have the appropriate CPCS/CSCS cards for the task they are working on, are trained and competent and work in a safe manner at all times.
  • Manage a zero tolerance policy on site.
  • Manage day to day site construction.
  • Evaluation and development of project solutions and options.
  • Development and administration of project schedules.
  • Project cost control and reporting.
  • Reporting on a daily or occurrence basis any equipment malfunction/damage.
  • Reporting of any sickness or absence of operatives.
  • Ensuring that accidents and injuries are recorded on the appropriate documents i.e. Accident record.
  • Reporting injuries that contributes to or causes sickness or absence to continue for longer than 3 days.
  • Report back on and encourage labourers to report back on near miss ruptures, accidents or potential accidents.
  • Integration and close working relationships with client and other contractors on site to ensure smooth running of the project.
  • To build pro-active relationships with the team at Smith’s Headquarters, Eastington, ensuring that the site benefits from the specialist skills and support available.
  • Effective liaison with Project Quantity Surveyor to ensure full potential recovery of extras and additions.
  • Signing off agency timesheets, ensure that the hours they have work are correct, the correct site name and contract number is written at the top. Copies are to be given to the Contracts Manager on the Monday morning following the week worked to allow them to be sent back to the agency.
  • Develop and deliver weekly Toolbox talks on appropriate subjects.
