This role deputises for: - Project Managers

Competence Requirements: -

  • SMSTS
  • Minimum three years in an Operational Construction environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of all relevant Middlesex Management Systems processes.

Role Summary: -

In this role you will be expected to co-ordinate, resource and plan works in accordance with the prescribed safe systems using your training, knowledge and competence to perform tasks to the required standards in a safe and efficient manner such that no risk is imported to Middlesex, the Public and yourself or your fellow workers. Maximising productivity and profit without compromising safety, quality or the environment and without importing risk to the Public and yourself or your fellow workers.

You are required to undertake all duties that may reasonably be required by your immediate Manager.

Post Specific Responsibilities include the following: -

· Attend weekly health and safety meetings set up by the client onsite.

· Complete daily briefings forms provided by the client as part of their site health and safety management criteria.

· Report any near misses to the office and site management.

· Ensure ALL site operatives sign the RAMS specific to the project. RAMS must always be in place for all works on site.

· Ensure the Middlesex Health and Safety Advisor/Manager has visited the site to write a report.

· Ensure the health and safety elements of the project folder are complete, for example the completion of tool box talks.

· Health and safety – Make sure everyone wears correct PPE, towers, podiums are tagged, PAT testing is up to date, weekly tool box talks are carried out, Health and safety project folders are used and up to date.

· Please inform Middx office if any operative continually breaks Health and safety rules on site, it’s your responsibility to remove them from site or inform the office.

· Attend weekly site progress meetings to discuss current and future works on the project.

· A good understanding of the English language – Able to email and communicate with the main contractor and Middx office.

· Plan your upcoming works in advance and then manage them as they arrive.

· Understand your project programme and when your project completion date is; and any key milestone dates within the programme for example the ceiling start date.

· Plan and manage material ordering, deliveries and site logistics, please give as much notice to Middx office as possible when ordering materials. Please be careful not to over order.

· Be aware of the type of materials on your project that may have long lead times such as acoustic baffles for instance. The procurement of these materials needs to be managed well in advance.

· Housekeeping – ensure Middlesex workers are keeping their area of work tidy at the end of the day, this encourages good working practice and improves the health and safety of the site.

· Coordinate with other trades and understand the sequence of works. This may result in weekly coordination meetings set up by the client.

· Understand your packages, Middlesex is capable of completing a range of packages on a single project including tiling, external facades, firestopping and carpentry. Be aware of what is included on your project and impacts these have.

· Encourage your workforce and lead with example.

· Weekly progress reports must be emailed to the office and the project team for the main contractor

· Ensure that all operative sign in and out each day, you should know exactly how many men you have on your project at any given time, Sign in sheets must be filed and given to Middx office

· All project folders, Handover sheets, Q & A sheets, Project Health and safety folder must be returned to Middx office when the project is complete. We need to keep records for at least 12 years.

· Ensure we are working to the latest drawing revision/detail, most projects are now on document control systems (4projects, Aconex, etc., etc. You should been given access/log in details to these. If extra training or help is required please inform Middx office

· Q & A sheets and handover sheets are completed with photo evidence with a copy kept for Middlesex and the other for the client.

· Ensure you have a good understanding of the system/manufactures standard details that we are working too. Knauf and BG handbooks will provide this information, you should have one at all times in the site office.

· Ensure that materials within Knauf or BG systems are not mixed, unless specific dispensation letters have been received by the manufacturer and passed onto you by Middlesex office.

· Ensure site reports are carried out by the manufacturer on each project.

· Record all pattresses, letterboxes and builders work with photographs and sequential numbering. This should be provided monthly as work progresses through the contract.

· Understand what are contract works and what are variation works. Use your BOQs in line with the construction drawings to determine your contract works.

· Ensure any dayworks carried out is recorded and the information recorded is accurate with a good description of the work carried out. If possible try to write instruction number on the daywork sheet and record materials used on daywork sheets, Photo evidence required.

· Inform Middx QS dealing with the project of any variations and if possible request instructions from the client.

· Do not proceed with any variation works without and instruction being granted, if there is a problem consult Middlesex QS.

· Any deviations from the tender drawings could highlight a variation.

· Revisit to areas resulting in uneconomical working could result in a variation, such as being unable to build reveals as waiting for windows to be fitted, or unable to board a ceiling because services are not installed.

Generic Personal Responsibilities include the following: -

  • To support the management of Middlesex in implementing the Managing Director’s policies on Safety, Quality, Environment, and Drugs & Alcohol.
  • To comply with all relevant Legislation, Contractual Standards and all procedures and instruction contained within the Middlesex Management System applicable to your role.
  • To report all instances of mal-practice and poor working standards to your immediate Manager.
  • To report all accidents, incidents and near misses to your immediate Supervisor/Manager as soon as possible.
  • To refuse to work whenever you feel that a safe system of work or working practice is inadequate to protect the Public and yourself or your fellow workers. You must report any refusal to work to your immediate Supervisor/Manager or escalate if necessary.
  • To only work to the level that you have been trained. You are required to maintain the competencies that you have been trained in.
  • To conduct yourself in a professional and polite manner at all times.
  • To comply with the Middlesex Drugs and Alcohol Policy at all times and report any use of over the counter or prescribed medicines to your immediate Manager.
  • To be aware of Working Hours restrictions and only report for duty if fit to do so.
  • To wear PPE where mandated by the relevant safe system of work.
  • To look after all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other Middlesex owned property either issued personally to you or any member of staff that you are supervising and report to your Manager immediately if any of the equipment is defective.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £60,000.00-£65,000.00 per year

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
