About this Role:
Ambitious / experienced Site Manager required to work alongside the Project Manager and Lead Site Manager on this £28m new build research and development laboratories in Didcot, Oxon.
This new build laboratory building will be constructed within a live operating environment, so good communication skills with all stakeholders and high standards of health & safety, careful planning and coordinating of deliveries, etc are essential.
Reporting to the Project Manager and Lead SM, you will be responsible for managing all site-based construction activities for your areas / packages; You will have responsibility for the safe and successful delivery of the construction on site including coordination/management of sub-contractors, short-term programming of works, ensuring company health and safety standards are achieved and enforced, review of method statements, risk assessments, site logistics, quality control, implementation of inspection and test plans, client liaison, coordination meetings, reporting on progress against programmes, issue resolution, etc, snagging and handover.
Very early enabling works have commenced on site, and will start in earnest in June with the main works due to start later in the summer. Construction of this steel framed building will run through into late 2024 with full Cat B fit out of the associated office space and coordination of specialist kit installation for the laboratory space, live commissioning, etc. There is a further phase of works for the same client to follow on the same site into 2025-6.

About the Company/Client/Project:
The role is with the busy regional office of this Tier 1 national contractor with a proven track record in the successful delivery of projects ranging from £30m to £60m in the commercial, scientific, secondary and higher education, luxury retirement, leisure, data centre, MOD and MOJ sectors. Geographical patch focus is Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, West London - M4 / M3 corridors.
Workload is secured on a mixture of national and regional frameworks, competitive tenders plus negotiated works with repeat clients. Turnover for the region is circa £120m, with a 100% of workload already secured for next year and into 2024/25.
With an excellent reputation for training, development, and the opportunity for progression within the business, this contractor has a very low turnover of staff, and long-term career employees in key management and director positions.
Requirements including certificates and qualifications:
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and proactive, demonstrating excellent technical, organisational, man-management and communication skills. A proven track record of 6-10 years of working for and developing within a top twenty main contractor will be advantageous.
You will ideally come from a construction management, engineering or trades background, be educated to degree level or similar NVQ level, with a sharp eye for detail and quality throughout. You will be forward thinking and resourceful, possessing the ability to plan ahead, identify and resolve issues, work well within a team, see the big picture, with a positive, 'get it right first time' approach.
You will possess your SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications for this role.
