Job description

Bernard Matthews is recruiting a Site Hygiene Manager who will be directly responsible for the hygiene function of the factory.

The Site Hygiene Manager will effectively and efficiently manage the resources to ensure the best use of people, plant and materials and that the area under your control achieves the targets set, managing a team of 60.

The role is full time, permanent and working 8 hour day or night shifts on a rota basis.

About you:

  • H&S Qualification IOSH
  • Fundamental understanding of COSHH
  • Experience working on a food production site required
  • Food safety level three or above
  • Ability to influence and motivate a team and continuously improve culture
  • Ability to confront issues, opportunities and others with logic
  • Motivated by a concern for strategically achieving results
  • A high level of flexibility is required and ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment
  • IT skills – Excel/power point
  • Good standard of spoken & written English which will allow written instructions to be read & effectively communicated.
  • Previous experience of Hygiene Supervision / Management

Role and Responsibilities of a Site Hygiene Manager:

Health, Safety & Environment:

  • Responsible for the environmental footprint of the production
  • Ensure COSHH regulations are always met
  • Carry out weekly Titration checks on chemical dosing to ensure we are compliant
  • Ensure that H&S guidelines are followed, actively drive identification of hazards to prevent accidents, where accidents happen ensure an investigation has been completed and corrective actions have been implemented
  • Carry out regular independent inspections of workplace to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with H&S guidelines
  • Ensure all cleans are carried out to required set standards, ensuring cover up is adhered to minimise water damage

People Management:

  • Ensure that all people are trained on tasks carried out with appropriate records and no exceptions
  • Ensure the daily work schedule is implemented effectively and signed off end of shift
  • Responsible for crewing/establishment in area including absence management / return to works and sickness cover to ensure the requirements of the nightly operation are always met.
  • Manage the team giving direction, motivating, coaching, and counselling as necessary to encourage the team to achieve the performance targets
  • Development of individuals to ensure total compliance and to allow maximum shift flexibility
  • Identify individuals with the potential to work at a higher level and put in plans to assist their development & potential for grade increase

Quality:

  • Ensuring working areas, process and documentation are working to the relevant audit compliance levels
  • Capturing product efficiencies and product traceability, instant challenge if processes not adhered to
  • Ensure all hygiene records and statistics are accurately maintained and supplied to appropriate departments on schedule
  • Carry out regular hygiene inspections to ensure personnel are reaching the required level of cleanliness
  • Where swab failures have been identified ensure these are targeted and investigated with corrective actions in place to eradicate the issue with a robust plan to ensure no continuation of failures

Waste Reduction:

  • To ensure the waste is placed in the required and designated areas for daily monitoring.
  • Ensure empty chemical drums are washed out end of shift and stored in the correct location for collection

Other:

  • Liaise with Production end of shift and start of shift to carry out effective handovers and understand pre & post Hygiene issues
  • Manage the walk away standards within the area and communicate with production to gain improvements on standards within the area
  • Communicate regularly to ensure all issues are reported and highlighted when needed
