Purpose of the Job
The Signalling Integration Team acts as the bridge between the projects and the equipment suppliers (including HW and SW Designers, Testers and Validators) to integrate the system into the overall train design. They are the Alstom's centre of expertise for signalling in the UK dealing with all aspects of on board Train Protection.
Responsibilities:
- Taking the customers’ contractual requirements and national Standards and writing technical requirements for the subsystem suppliers.
- Scrutinising the supplier’s design and development activities.
- Managing the data interface between the signalling or train protection sub-systems and the Train Control and Management System.
- Managing the interface between the signalling or train protection sub-systems and the wayside infrastructure.
- Organising validation activities on Alstom's “Train Zero” test rig and on test trains, either in Derby or at external test facilities.
- Documenting compliance of the system to the original requirements and standards.
- Management of design changes for the system and related interfaces.
- Dealing with non-compliances, reliability issues, customer questions etc. relating to the on board systems.
- Performing train system FMECA in coordination with RAMS team.
- Ensuring consistency and compatibility between all the sub-systems specifications.
- Defining and performing Train verification strategy in close collaboration with all Engineering metiers, Certification & Validation teams and TSS.
- Technical open issues resolution on TSE request, from investigation to modification implementation and problem closure.
- Supporting Lead Engineer for implementation and update of Engineering risks mitigation.
- Writing sub-system specification and architecture description (RSAD2) in collaboration with the SSE/PU/TCE according to train level architecture.
Requirements:
- Degree or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering / Software Systems Engineering or other relevant discipline.
- Two to four years experience in a system engineering/integration environment.
- Railway experience preferable, but not essential.
- Willingness to learn about and apply knowledge of Train Protection Systems (for example AWS/TPWS and ETCS) and their importance in the wider rail environment.
- Experience in requirement management tools like DOORS would be an advantage.
- Strong communication and customer orientation skills.
- Ability to communicate with internal stakeholders, suppliers on a regular basis and record actions and decisions.
- Member of relevant professional institution (e.g. IET), working towards Chartered Engineer (if not already Chartered) and undertaking Continued Profession Development (institution fees are reimbursed by the company).
