Job description

As a Shop Assistant at a Hardware & DIY Store, you will play a role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring the smooth operation of the store. You will assist customers with their inquiries, offer product recommendations, and provide guidance on DIY projects. Your primary responsibilities will include:

1. Customer Service: Greeting customers, answering their questions, and providing friendly and helpful assistance. You will strive to create a positive shopping experience and build strong customer relationships.

2. Product Knowledge: Developing a good understanding of the store's products, including hardware items, tools, home improvement materials, and DIY supplies. You will stay updated on product features, specifications, and uses to effectively assist customers.

3. Sales Support: Assisting customers in finding the right products for their needs and offering additional items or accessories to enhance their purchases. You will actively promote sales and contribute to achieving store targets.

4. Stock Management: Monitoring product availability on the sales floor and replenishing stock as needed. You will assist in receiving deliveries, restocking shelves, and ensuring products are correctly labeled and priced.

5. Store Maintenance: Contributing to a clean, organized, and safe store environment. This includes keeping the sales floor tidy, organizing displays, and notifying appropriate personnel of any maintenance or safety concerns.

6. Cash Handling: Operating the cash register, processing customer payments accurately, and providing receipts. You will handle cash transactions, credit card payments, and returns in accordance with store policies.

7. Team Collaboration: Collaborating with colleagues and supporting them in their tasks when needed. You will work together to create a cohesive and efficient team environment.

Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge of hardware, tools, and home improvement products is preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing tasks and priorities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Cash handling experience is an advantage.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy objects if required.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £7.58-£11.04 per hour
