This role manages Testing and Test team leads from across a domain that includes News + Sport, Children’s + Education, Content Discovery and Product + Channel Excellence.

We work in highly collaborative team of engineers, testers, UX designers and product owners.

We work in agile teams and release often. We support this by making sure our testing is robust and that our pipelines are steadfast. We monitor our systems in production to understand the impact of change every time we do a release.

This role is continuing and can be based in our London or Salford office. Please state your location of preference in your application.

We work in multi-discipline crews with Software Engineers, Testers, Product owners and Delivery, in a respectful and collaborative environment.

Main Responsibilities

The role is for an enterprise level Test Manager who is comfortable working across multiple projects, managing the end to end testing strategy, with both internal and external teams.

So what’s involved in this role?

Some of the typical responsibilities and where you come in include:

  • Design and implement test strategies and processes that allow the department to keep pace with innovation and drive efficiencies in delivery
  • Establish a centre of excellence for testing and establish division as an industry leader in this field
  • Define and execute on procedures and processes for testing and release of products that deliver quality and innovation, aligned across all stakeholder groups
  • Ownership of testing for the division’s products
  • Ensure maintenance and documentation of procedures and processes for the testing and release of products
  • Lead and build a team of test professionals and device specialists. Grow and mentor the technical and leadership skills within the team and create development opportunities for them
  • Work closely with Engineering Managers, product owners, technical architects , leads and other stakeholders across the BBC
  • Manage third parties and suppliers
  • Build good relationships and networks with other broadcasters, technology companies and device manufacturers’ relationships

  • Proven experience as a Test leader
  • Excellent people management skills, with experience of leading cross-functional teams in a matrix organisation
  • Experience of working across and co-ordinating with multiple teams within scalable organisations
  • Strong time/activity management to ensure plan is run to meet deadlines
  • Ability to run tests in a time sensitive environment and demonstrate how to capture key test results / issues early on in the testing cycle
  • Ability to create a test plan which takes into account data requirements, test script requirements, resource allocation and planning
  • Support the design and development test scenarios/scripts for functional testing
  • Knowledge and experience with creating test scenarios / user stories, test cases and tracking them through the end-to-end process
  • Experience of innovating in testing technology and processes
  • Extensive experience of relevant technologies
  • Delivery focused – with evidence of driving efficiencies on the delivery
  • Consulting and client management skills, including a track record of good relationship management including motivation, collaboration and influencing
  • Experience in agile software development methodologies
  • Experience of successfully managing external suppliers
  • Experience of working with and forming productive relationships with technology companies
