Experience of working in shift management within the manufacturing sector is essential, as you will have responsibility for manufacturing across 5 high speed automated production lines on your shift. It’s also essential to have experience of coaching and developing people, alongside the achievement of KPI’s to support safety, quality and productivity.
Role Purpose:
Responsible for the shift management of all manufacturing on site, to ensure that the shift and overall operations team meets the production plan.
Overall responsibility for the health and safety of all manufacturing operators.
Responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient use of all manufacturing assets on site.
Responsible for the implementation and subsequent supervision of the company's overall manufacturing strategy in order to maximise:
- Site safety performance.
- Process efficiency.
- Productivity.

Key Responsibilities:
- Report and address Health and Safety concerns. Encourage and support direct reporting of concerns by the team.
- ‘Champion’ health and safety initiatives, supporting the Company’s behavioural safety programme.
- Liaising with other manufacturing ‘key’ personnel (Supervisors, Engineering Manager, Planning Manager, Production Manager). Agree the daily / weekly ‘Plan’ for all manufacturing activity. (Planning changeovers, servicing tooling, underperforming assets, training opportunities)
- To develop / coach / supervise / appraise your particular shift team.
- Fully involve all team members with regards to the overall performance of the business through excellent communication, coaching, briefings, team meetings etc.
- Undertake daily inspections of all manufacturing assets to ensure optimum performance is being achieved, reporting underperformance to your immediate supervisor to enhance OEE. (including unnecessary waste/scrap)
- Ensure all product manufactured is within manufacturing tolerances. (Including identification labels etc.)
- Suggest / agree / implement changes to enhance the operational performance of all manufacturing assets.
- Suggest / agree / implement changes to enhance the operational performance of all operational personnel.
- Identify savings by removing waste or unnecessary downtime / from the product changeover process.
- Ensure the sites housekeeping standards are optimum at all times.
- Introduce and establish site-wide 5 ‘S’ methodology is maintained by all personnel.
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of a best practice manufacturing vision, strategy, principles, practices and procedures to enhance the operational and financial performance of the business.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimisation opportunities.
- Develop tools to monitor / trend the performance of your specific team to enhance the overall business performance.
- Interpret trends, analyse and review data, communicate and action as necessary to enhance the manufacturing performance of the business.
- Lead by example at all times.
- Adhere to company procedures at all times, reporting any issues of non-conformance to your immediate supervisor.
- Achieve agreed KPIs and personal targets / objectives.
Communication & Contacts:
- Liaise with other team leaders to ensure that successful communication takes place at hand over periods.
- Regular face to face verbal and written communication with managers, peers and subordinates, including daily summary reporting, monthly summary reporting & Operational reports etc.
- Significant requirement to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Team Leaders.
People Management:
- Coach and develop a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, adding value and continuous improvement.
