Sessional Livestock Opportunities
Hackney City Farm is a working Farm in London on a 2-acre site. The Charity was established in 1984 by members of the community, it is open 6 days a week to visitors free of charge. We provide people with Learning and educational opportunities based on Food, Farming and the wider environment.
We have opportunities for sessional work as part of our bank staff to provide occasional or part time cover on the Farmyard.
We offer the possibility of flexible working at £12.50 per hour with a 30-minute paid lunch break.
There is a good, friendly and experienced team awaiting the right people.
Essential Qualities:
· Enthusiastic and passionate about working on a city farm and educating visitors.
· Qualified to level 2 Animal Care (Diploma) or equivalent.
· Have at least 1 year experience working with Livestock.
You will be responsible for carrying out the following tasks:
· Feeding animals.
· Mucking out.
· Bedding down.
· Opening and closing farm to visitors.
· Supervising the yard during opening hours.
· Collecting eggs.
· Maintaining farmyard.
· Supervising volunteers.
· Running livestock from indoor enclosures to fields before opening and running livestock back at the end of the day.
· Health checks of Sheep, Goats, Donkeys, Pigs, Chickens, Ducks and Geese.
· Assist with Lambing, kidding, Farrowing, Foaling and Hatching projects.
· Following the Five freedoms.
· Answering visitor enquiries.
· Assisting in the treatment of sick or injured animals.
Desired Qualities:
· Full driving licence.
· Low level DIY skills
· Experience leading corporate volunteer days
· Experience installing livestock fencing
