Position Overview: The Academic Multimedia Audio Visual Service Technician is a full-time role reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Multimedia Services within the division of Information Technology at Stevens Institute of Technology. This on-site position requires a regular work schedule, with flexibility to work off hours and weekends as needed. The Service Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, servicing, and supporting audio visual equipment and systems, supporting faculty, staff, and students in mediated spaces across campus with the primary focus being on classrooms technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation:
- Proficiently install, diagnose, and repair audiovisual cabling systems, control devices, audio digital signal processors (DSPs), speakers, microphones, cameras, displays, projectors, and projector screens.
- Ensure operational readiness of equipment before events and escalate logistical issues when necessary.
- Understand and interpret audiovisual system diagrams.
Maintenance:
- Manage day-to-day housekeeping and maintenance of mediated spaces campus wide.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for classroom and event technology-related issues.
- Conduct routine in-person preventative maintenance testing and problem diagnosis for fully integrated AV/control systems.
- Provide monthly quality assurance status reports for all mediated spaces.
Service:
- Coordinate service requests with external vendors.
- Collaborate with campus departments to schedule maintenance and testing of mediated spaces.
- Document equipment details, including checklists, design changes, and other required data.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including procedure manuals, troubleshooting guides, and policies to support clients' optimal use of University IT/AV resources and services.
- Maintain a consolidated asset inventory list of audiovisual hardware and peripherals.
- Provide first and second-tier technical support, document issues in the supported ticketing system, and provide solutions or escalate as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, with at least 5 years of experience in audiovisual technology or a related field; equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Windows-based and Mac-based platforms, including digital video signal processing and presentation.
- Proficiency in audiovisual technologies such as projection systems, audio systems, interactive displays, and design tools.
- Extensive experience in installing, diagnosing, and repairing audiovisual cabling systems and equipment.
- Proficiency in operating Windows and iOS systems, remote control systems (Crestron, AMX), and audio digital signal processing (DSP) programs.
- Familiarity with Crestron, web-based video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams), PTZ cameras (Logitech, Huddly, 1 Beyond, Vaddio, Poly), microphone systems (Shure), smartboards, and projection systems/displays (Epson, Samsung).
- Ability to comprehend audiovisual system diagrams.
- Strong commitment to learning and adapting to emerging technologies for teaching, learning, collaboration, and events.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills and service ethic.
- Ability to lift between 30-50 pounds.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment with a sense of urgency.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in meeting support (in-person/hybrid).
- Active participation in professional organizations and relevant professional development programs.
- Audiovisual industry certifications preferred, such as InfoComm Avixa CTS, audio digital signal processing (DSP) certification (Biamp, QSC, etc.), and Crestron Technical Institute certification.
