Job description

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Service Manager – Maintenance to join our team in the North West region. The Service Manager will lead the delivery of highways maintenance and repair works across the region, ensuring routine maintenance is well planned, and all activities, whether routine or reactive, are managed and delivered in a timely manner.

This role also has on-call responsibilities during critical incidents.

What you’ll be leading on

  • Develop and maintain highways maintenance related services, ensuring service level and contract management requirements are met.
  • Ensuring customer expectations are reflected in contractual agreements and/or further negotiations.
  • Build and manage high quality cyclical maintenance work plans and resource plans.
  • Control and approve all maintenance and response related spend.
  • Proactively track and monitor service delivery performance, working closely with Service Delivery On-Road colleagues and programme management office colleagues to understand performance trends, identify risks, analyse root causes for performance issues and develop remedial action plans.
  • Ensure the planning cycle takes account of known events and the implications of winter and severe weather and emergency scenarios and contributes to the optimisation of network availability.

  • Contract management experience
  • Proven experience in a fast paced, 24/7 service delivery environment
  • Planning and project delivery skills
  • Good financial understanding, including budget management
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Customer-focussed with the ability to influence and negotiate
