The Position

Recreation/Community Services Coordinator

Salary displayed includes 9.5% general salary increase effective July 2, 2023.
An additional 9.5% general salary increase will be applied effective July 2024.

  • The hiring department will consider the Promotional Eligibility List prior to considering candidates on the Open Eligibility List.
  • The first review of candidates will take place on July 28th, 2023 by the Recreation & Community Services Department for candidates interested in vacancies within this department.

The Community, Life & Culture agency is searching for multiple recreation and museum professionals to join the team as a Recreation/Community Services Coordinator. The current vacancies are in the Recreation & Community Services Department and the Department of Museum, Arts & Culture. Under general supervision, the Recreation/Community Services Coordinator plans, organizes, schedules, implements, and coordinates a variety of recreational and community service programs; and supervises part-time and volunteer staff.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving the community, have the ability to work collaboratively with employees, officials, the public and has experience in coordinating recreation and/or community services programs. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be a role model for the City's Approach to Public Service and embody the qualities of a 5 Tool Player - Leader, Thinker, Operator, Communicator, and Public Servant.

The Department of Museum, Arts & Culture will be using working titles for their vacancies. If selected to join the team, you will be considered for an Event Coordinator, Facilities and Visitor Experience Coordinator and/or a Public Art Coordinator (Part-time only). Examples of Essential Functions


The essential functions typically performed by a Recreation/Community Services Coordinator include the following:


  • Coordinates, schedules, implements, and supervises a variety of recreation and community services programs, activities and events.
  • Participates in the development of recreation and community services program proposals.
  • Coordinates facility reservations and scheduling.
  • Monitors and reports on safety and maintenance of community center facilities and parks.
  • Schedules, directs, trains and evaluates part-time and volunteer staff; completes required evaluation forms.
  • Receives and responds to public and community group inquiries and requests; and assists with customer services and providing appropriate recommendations.
  • Develops and writes brochure information, press releases, promotional information, and fliers regarding recreation and community services events, programs, and related information.
  • Prepares program evaluation reports.
  • Provides program implementation recommendations and assists supervisor with special projects, departmental procedures and handling employee questions or concerns as necessary.
  • Prepares and distributes logs and reports to supervisor.
  • Handles and records cash revenue in compliance with departmental financial controls.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned.

Qualification Guidelines

Educational Requirements
High school diploma or recognized equivalent.

Experience Requirements
Two years of experience in coordinating recreation and/or community services programs or a related field.

Desirable
Bilingual in Spanish is highly desirable. Experience in Microsoft Office 365 and recreation software programs, preferably CivicRec. College-level degree and/or coursework in recreation, public administration, or a related field
