Purpose of the role:
To develop new business and to underwrite AIG’s UK Yacht business in line with agreed business financial targets and metrics. The role will involve developing new and managing existing business sources as well as underwriting on a case by case basis, handling large/technical referrals, Portfolio Management at the broker level, Project management/involvement for new initiatives and developing our company underwriting standards and philosophies. Participation in industry marketing events and raising brand awareness in the yacht space.
Accountabilities for the role:
- Drive profitable growth of the UK yacht portfolio.
- Provide a high class service to our distribution partners through effective underwriting of yacht business.
- Create and maintain strong relationships with appointed brokers and to develop new broker connections / opportunities.
- Monitor portfolio performance of each broker on an ongoing basis, assessing both underwriting results and trends.
- Support the development of new products and/or product enhancements. Create and/or approve policy wording enhancements including terms, conditions and limits.
- To carry out key accountabilities and objectives within the framework of AIG’s Conduct Risk policy.
- Ensure that business written is correctly catered for within the Company’s reinsurance protection, including suggested facultative reinsurance protection in line with Yacht Underwriting strategy.
- Comply with key regulatory, conduct and risk management requirements and responsibilities.
Experience & Qualifications Required:
A strong Yacht Underwriting background at Company or MGA/Underwriting Agency level. The candidate will need to be capable of handling large and complex underwriting referrals with past experience of handling superyacht business preferred. Experience developing new broker relationships and being able to demonstrate experience in portfolio management is also required.
Good communication skills, both written and oral are required plus the ability to create presentations or briefing notes and communicate and present to Senior management and Exec level audiences.
Ability to work across multiple projects and work streams at any one time and prioritise accordingly is highly valued.
Solid understanding of the private yacht industry as well as strong knowledge of local market with a working knowledge of global markets both for Hull and P&I.
Entrepreneurial spirit and understands multiple insurance distribution methods.
