Job description
Senior Web Engineer
Salary Banding £58,500 - £75,000
Diversity Matters
We are building a brand that represents the people of the world. It’s what you do that counts, and we are always looking to expand perspectives and voices to shape our future. We see you, we celebrate you, we want you!
Who we are
You might know us as the inventors of the bath bomb, but there’s more to this great-smelling, privately-owned and family-run company than pioneering cosmetics. We believe our business should put more back into the world than it takes and demonstrate that capitalism can be a force for good. We fight cruel practices like animal testing, promote regeneration, and show that what’s inside counts - whether that’s an ingredient in a product or the minerals in a smartphone.
We’re leading Lush's digital strategy and development globally, across many digital properties ranging from apps to websites. We’re a fast-paced, dynamic team that are comfortable with rapid change and happy talking about and demonstrating our work to the wider business and stakeholders.
What you’ll do:
As a Senior Web Engineer you’ll work with cross-functional teams, including UI designers, Back-End engineers, QA test engineers, stakeholders and more, to create beautiful web experiences. You’ll be building everything from bespoke API services to implementing interactive designs to make our website more engaging to our customers and contribute to our KPIs.
You will be working within our fast-paced and dynamic team with a sprintly release cycle. You will carefully manage and negotiate code traffic and support the necessary code quality and processes to ensure what we are releasing improves the quality of our core web vitals. It goes without saying that you’ll have an appreciation of what makes a design work with up-to-date knowledge of the latest innovations within frontend technologies.
You will be working with many different departments and stakeholders in the company from project concept to delivery and maintenance. The features you will be releasing will be of high-visibility and impact, therefore, this should appeal to your nature and pace of work to energise you to support our teams in working across multiple disciplines and creating some innovative products.
You will continually use your experience to contribute your expertise to help leave our projects Lusher than you found it. You will challenge the status quo and won’t sit back. You will enjoy mentoring your peers and juniors whilst ensuring our approach to everything we touch, aligns with our strategy and Lush’s master plan.
Who you are:
You’ll be a strong team player who is able to use your initiative to self-manage. You’ll identify the opportunities to reduce complexity and componentized code and be familiar with working with APIs, building for failure and hostile conditions. The majority of the sites and applications you’ll be working with are built using React, so previous experience with this is desirable. You will be someone who likes to get stuck in and thrown in the deep end, ready to take the reins on supporting the scalability and growth of our eCommerce platforms and internal tools whilst having a positive can-do attitude.
We want to see developers who are well-versed in;
- A strong understanding of React and the wider JavaScript ecosystem
- Next.js
- Typescript
- GraphQL/Apollo
- API-first solutions and integrations
- Styled components/Styled System/SCSS
- Jest, react-testing-library
- Version control best practices (Git)
- Test driven development and know why it’s important.
- Project management tools and practices.
- Confidently and effectively present and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders. In a clear, solution focused and structured manner.
We'd especially love to hear from you if you have experience with micro-frontends and a proven track record of project leadership and mentorship.
The team
We have a mixture of developers from all experiences and fields. We are responsible for managing the entirety of the customer experience of the website and a range of internal tools. Our website currently serves 23 Markets in 17 languages and are continually growing with big plans ahead. Our site must be as robust and performant as possible to allow us to rapidly deliver new features to engage and discover new customers.
