We have a very exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to join the BBC news, world service and weather app teams as a senior tester. Reporting to the Test Team Lead, you will join other disciplines on one of our scrum teams to plan, test and deploy new features for our news, world service and weather mobile applications. Specifically, you will design tests, report on progress, advice on device coverage and contribute to automation tests.
You will work in close collaboration with other disciplines in the team, in a highly cross-functional and autonomous environment with support and guidance at every level. Therefore, effective and clear communication skills are important. Collaborative approaches to finding the right solution are fundamental to this role. Main Responsibilities- Design, write and analyse manual and exploratory tests for mobile app features
- Improve existing tests
- Develop automated tests and test tools for mobile app features
- Report on the progress of and risks of test efforts
- Mentor junior members of the team
- Ensure troubleshooting and resolution of issues throughout the product life cycle is carried out.
- Work closely with developers and other disciplines to design, develop & release working software (audience facing products + tools)
- Encourage best practices
- Learn new technologies and adapt to change
- Promote skills and knowledge sharing
The ideal candidate will have experience of some, but not necessarily all, of the following:
- Experience of testing on mobile platforms at scale
- Experience of backend testing/API testing experience
- Experience of proxy tools used in mobile app testing (eg. Charles Proxy)
- Writing automated tests for mobile or/and web applications
- Working on an agile team with multiple disciplines
- Knowledge and experience of automation testing frameworks
- Leadership and collaboration inside and beyond the team. The ability to influence diverse and senior stakeholders effectively
- Good written and spoken communications skills; comfortable engaging at all levels in the organisation
- Mentoring experience
