Job description

We are pleased to be inviting applications for social workers to join our teams supporting children and young people in care. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is committed to working with children and young people as their corporate parent and achieving best possible outcomes.

We have a clear career pathway for social workers in York. We welcome applications from newly qualified social workers through to those with more experience. If you have more experience (three years post qualifying experience) we may offer to directly recruit you as a Senior Social Worker at a higher grade. Please speak to us if this is of interest.

The Children in Permanent Placements Team works with looked after children, implementing their care plans to support them through to adulthood or to return to their families when positive change has been achieved. We support children and young people who are subject to Care Orders and those accommodated under Section 20 of the Children Act.

We seek to support our children and young people to achieve their potential through having high aspirations for them.

Successful candidates will have a manageable caseload which will allow you to form strong relationships with children, young people and the team around them. Our social workers work in a high challenge and high support environment with an established and committed team. There is regular one to one supervision as well as peer supervision.

It is an exciting time to join our team as we embark on achieving our ambition plan. We continue to develop a solution focussed, reflective and analytical approach to working alongside our children, young people and their families . Candidates will need to be highly motivated and committed to ensuring timescales are met to ensure our young people receive a good quality service. The candidate will need to be able to work independently, with skills in working within timescales and with conflicting priorities.

It is critical that the candidate has excellent written and oral communication skills. The preparation of clear, analytical and coherent reports is a requirement of this post. Assessing need and writing children’s care plans which include the voice of children, young people and families throughout the process is essential.

If you are a dedicated professional who wants to make a difference for children and young people in our care and enjoy the rewards of this challenging work, then apply now.

This post is a hybrid role with a blend of working from council offices as well as remotely. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.

We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development.
