We’re building discovery teams of Service Designers and User Researchers to work with our Lead Business Analysts and help provide skills and knowledge across the wider agency. You will ensure we create the best possible ideas, opportunities and improvements for those who use our services.

Job description

The senior service designer is an experienced designer who works with minimal support and can influence and mentor others.

You will:

  • Design services which meet the Government Service Standard
  • Ensure services meet public sector accessibility regulations
  • Carry out a wide range of service design activities from problem framing, journey mapping, prototyping and workshop facilitation
  • Design and implement strategies to ensure services are efficient, scalable and robust
  • Develop user-facing features ensuring technical feasibility of UI/UX designs in line with the GDS Design System
  • Prototype website designs and UI elements as required
  • Embed and continually improve ways of working across delivery teams.

  • We’re looking for someone confident in creating collaborative environments, giving people a safe space to contribute to the solving of problems and development of new ideas.
  • You’re curious about understanding our users and what drives their behaviour, helping us to pinpoint the change we need to deliver to keep Britain’s roads safe.
  • You have a proactive mindset with a strong ability to influence decisions and strategies to achieve the right outcomes for our users.
  • You’re skilled at problem solving in a landscape made up of complex services that can span internal departments and external organisations.
  • You’re comfortable with navigating ambiguity, whilst contributing to defining the user centred design approach for DVSA.
  • You have strong stakeholder management skills, effective in communicating with a wide range of people from senior management to members of the general public.

DDaT Allowance

This role is part of the Digital Data and Technology profession and attracts an enhanced pay scale which is mapped to capability levels. The successful candidates starting salary will be determined by performance at interview and assessed capability level. There are two components to DDaT pay - base pay and DDaT allowance.

The role may also attract a DDaT allowance of up to £10,000. The amount, if afforded is determined by several factors one of which is assessed capability level.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo yearly capability assessments which may result in pay increases or decreases. A drop in capability in any given assessment period results in 12 month pay protection to allow candidates to retain prior capability level.
