The Position

In September 2022, Imerys Group (

) published a press release confirming to start an exclusive negotiations with Syntagma Capital (www.syntagmacapital.com
) for the potential sale of certain assets producing kaolin, ground calcium carbonate (“GCC”), precipitated calcium carbonate (“PCC”), and talc, which primarily serve the paper markets in North Americas, South America, Asia and Europe.
This new company formed by all these industrial sites, kaolin mine, port access and Hubs is foreseen to start its operation under a new brand on March 31th, 2023. The revenue in 2021 was 400 million euros. It will offer mineral solutions for industries worldwide. All the sites are already working and producing. About 950 employees total.
Besides serving lots of the paper and board markets nowadays, this new company will use its global footprint, unique assets and longstanding know-how to develop new business opportunities and foster innovation. Sustainability is a core value of this Company.
Regarding employment, the Company needs to reinforce existing teams to operate as a standalone organization but also to meet its ambitious development plans.
Branding and name of the Company are currently defined and will be communicated largely very soon.
Overview
- To identify and develop new technical & business relevant opportunities for “Berg” especially in relation to (but not restricted to) paper and board and push for growth in non-paper markets
- To provide scientific and technical leadership for “Berg” including Innovation, NPD and Customer projects
- To raise external technical profile of “Berg” organisation through external publications and networks
- To provide support and guidance on product stewardship, regulatory compliance and EHS
Responsibilities

- Mentoring responsibilities
- To expand and develop our core technical competence in mineral applications for paper and packaging markets. Experience of wet end applications and/or Pulp bleaching would be an advantage.
- To expand and develop our core technical competence into non-paper areas
- To initiate, develop and lead (or support) business relevant projects in these markets
- To work globally with respect to the above
- To provide technical expertise and consultancy to production and commercial teams within Berg
- To provide scientific and technical support to other regions within Berg as required
- To provide technical expertise and support to Berg customers
- To keep up to date with relevant scientific and regulatory knowledge and to apply as appropriate
- To produce technical guides, presentations and publications to communicate knowledge internally and externally
Experiences
- Postgraduate degree or strong first degree in a scientific discipline
- At least 10 years experience in relevant technical/laboratory environment
Skills
- In depth technical understanding of minerals, paper processes and applications
- Ability to plan, analyse and summarise complex technical projects
- Needs to be adaptable and able to translate skills to new areas
- Good communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work in teams and in a multicultural environment
- Needs to be innovative and self-motivated
