Due to rapid expansion, we have a requirement for a Senior Risk Consultant to join our growing Risk team.
A position within our advisory services business, Senior Risk Consultants deliver complex assignments, developing and implementing innovative solutions to help our clients improve enterprise risk, operational performance and assure project / programme delivery.
We’re looking for individuals who demonstrate a passion for delivering results, an aptitude for tackling complex challenges and the interpersonal skills to influence team success. Whilst practical experience of applying risk management and project management processes and techniques is highly advantageous, excellent communication skills, self-motivation and a strong team ethic are essential attributes.
Key responsibilities
- Delivering technical excellence to our clients as part of a Costain team
- Delivering risk management assignments with our clients to improve performance and help deliver some of the most complex projects and programmes in the UK and abroad
- Identifying opportunities with new and existing clients, and helping to grow our business
- Helping to develop and promote new areas of capability to meet market needs
- Working across our sectors to develop and share risk management best practice
- Ensuring that we provide comprehensive and accurate information to clients by adhering to quality management procedures
- Driving a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and delivering value to our clients

About You
Qualifications
- Degree level education
- Proficiency with at least one common risk register tool (SWORD ARM, Xactium, Predict)
- Proficiency with at least one risk analysis tool (Primavera Risk Analysis, Palisade @RISK, Safran)
- APM PMQ or Prince II project qualifications advantageous
Please note that, due to security requirements, this role is only open to sole UK Nationals. The successful applicant will need to obtain an SC Clearance within the first six months if they do not already hold it
Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours
- 2 + years of risk management in a project context
- Knowledge of risk management procedures, practices & techniques
- Experience of producing risk management guidance, and of implementing and improving risk management activities
- Experience of Quantitative Risk Analysis (Schedule or Cost Risk Analysis)
- Understanding of planning, budgeting, change control, earned value and other project controls techniques
- Demonstrable ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with senior stakeholders
- Ability to scope, plan and cost tasks, and then deliver on time and budget
- Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good written and oral communication including delivery of high-quality reports, analysis results
- Positive and enthusiastic approach and able to work without day to day supervision
- Passion for delivering innovative and excellent client service
- Flexibility and drive to be able to achieve project objectives and overcome barriers to progress
- Proficient in use of MS Office suite (Word / Excel / PowerPoint)
- Champions ‘doing it right first time and do it safely’ through own actions whilst influencing, encouraging and supporting the wider team to do the same
- Willingly gives up time to support team and others to achieve goals
- Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and takes steps to act on feedback
