We are looking for an experienced Senior Veterinary Nurse to join our Team at Northampton Companion Care!
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Head Nurse in supporting the JVP(s) and Practice Manager in the day to day running of the practice, contributing to maximising turnover and growing the profitability of the practice. With the assistance of the wider nursing team assist the JVP(s) and Veterinary Surgeon(s) in the day to day clinical duties with emphasis on the best possible standards of patient care.

We will offer £24,000+ (depending on experience) for the right person to work with us between 16-30 hours per week, no OOH's or on call.

Our established practice is purpose built with state of the art equipment including digital X-ray, ultrasound, dental machine, theatre, isolation kennels, in house laboratory, Doppler blood pressure monitor and capnography. We see a varied caseload and have a high number of insured clients.

Key Responsibilities

- Work closely with the wider clinical and non-clinical teams to deliver timely and effective patient and customer care for all
- Second line manager responsibility for members of the nursing team
- Assist the Head Nurse in leading the team of nursing colleagues to achieve the best levels of patient and customer care possible
- Nursing role model within the practice; lead by example
- Assist the Head Nurse in driving the nursing team to perform at their highest ability and demonstrate ownership of their actions
- Manage face-to-face interactions with clients as well as phone calls in a professional and friendly manner
- Report to the Head Nurse any concerns or customer complaints made against an individual in the nursing team
- Report to the Head Nurse any concerns about any team member
- Actively aware of financial controls with the practice and work along the Head Nurse to reduce costs
- Upkeep Practice Standards folder and ensure compliance throughout the practice. Aim to complete/check off one section per week
- Ensure drugs and stock are all within date and within the broach date
- Ensure injectables have the broach date recorded
- Manage Controlled Drugs alongside Head Nurse
- Research new Drugs and Equipment to see if they would benefit the practice
- Upkeep/update SOPs. Aim to check off one a month
- Know how to back up x-rays should Head Nurse need to delegate this
- Alongside Head Nurse – responsible for all required nursing duties to be completed each day
- Prepare and clean animal accommodation in accordance with the needs of the patient and local policy, making sure the patient is safe, secure and clean, monitoring and recording of the patient’s condition
- Build strong working relationships with surgery suppliers
- Maintain adequate stock levels for the practice
- Where there are students in the practice: act as Clinical Coach to Student Veterinary Nurses and assist them in completing their Nursing Progress Log.
