Job description

Location: Cambridge Science Park, Cambridge, UK.

Full time

Qkine is a Cambridge, UK-based manufacturer of high purity, animal-free growth factors, cytokines, and other complex proteins. We combine proprietary production processes with protein engineering technology to tackle fundamental biological and scale-up challenges for the fast-growing stem cell, organoid, regenerative medicine, and cultured meat sectors.

A spin-out from Cambridge University founded in 2016, we have already attracted a loyal customer following from both leading biotechnology companies and world-class academic institutions. As we enter the next phase of our growth, we seek an experienced leader to nurture our talented laboratory team andlead the next stage of our facility expansion.

We are looking for an experienced Protein Scientist to join our busy R&D team. You will hold a PhD or possess equivalent experience in biochemistry, molecular biology or a related scientific discipline and must have a strong history of research achievements or experience in the Biotech industry. Extensive knowledge in producing and purifying complex proteins and analysing their quality is essential. Experience in yeast and plant expression is also desirable. The successful candidate will work independently to set targets and plan work, have great diligence, good communication skills and a “thinking outside the box” approach. We are looking for initiative-taking team players with a broad range of skills and definite can-do attitude.

You will have:

  • Experience in construct design, recombinant protein expression (E. coli, yeast and plant), purification and characterisation
  • Firsthand experience in working with AKTA systems, or similar types of equipment, and ability to troubleshoot purification issues
  • Knowledge of ELN platform and accurate data collection and presentation
  • Experience working with a QMS such as ISO9001: 2015 or ISO13485 would be an advantage

We believe in nurturing our team, empowering individuals, and working flexibly. We do this while exceeding the expectations of our customers and collaborators by focussing on delivering the best service, scientific insight, and product quality.

In addition to competitive salaries, we also offer an attractive employee share option scheme.

How to apply:

Please send a two-page CV and a one-page covering letter explaining why you are a great fit for the role and would like to join our team.

We will be interviewing on a rolling basis for this key team member. Informal enquiries welcome. Please contact Luana Ferrara, R&D manager. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Qkine is committed to supporting and promoting equality and diversity and creating an inclusive, supportive and flexible working environment.
