The new prisons programme is an exciting programme of four new prisons to be constructed at locations across the UK, using modern methods of construction. Each prison will be all-electric and able to operate as net zero carbon.

Initially based from our Manchester office during the pre-construction phase, as scheme transitions to construction phase the team will co-locate with the main contractor on site in Lancashire, providing hands on monitoring and problem solving throughout the construction phase.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the new prisons programme leadership team to promote the programme’s aspirations for collaboration, sustainability, data led delivery and modern methods construction.

  • Managing a team of project managers and other specialists to deliver in line with client objectives.

  • Contributing to project delivery strategy, including packaging of works and delivery implementation processes.

  • Managing production and technical assurance of the design and other deliverables required for contract award.

  • Leading a small team of technical reviewers to evaluate design approvals, and managing technical issues as they arise.

  • Working with a commercial consultant to manage change, risk and achieve value for money.

  • Managing the delivery phase through to successful handover and occupation.

  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with the client, main contractor and stakeholders.

  • Maintaining regular, accurate reporting across a range of platforms.

  • Coordinating, planning and managing internal and external meetings about the project.

  • Managing the contract award process, developing works information and supporting schedules to form the basis of the NEC ECC scope.

  • Managing change in an efficient manner and in accordance with the NEC contract and client governance process.

  • Tracking planning and other consents necessary for successful completion, identifying and implementing corrective actions where required.

  • Monitoring site progress, leading regular strategic programme reviews and providing feedback to the contractor and client.

  • Contributing to risk management and work with project team to identify, schedule, and establish mitigation strategies for project risks.

About you

You have a good understanding of pre-construction processes (briefing, design, procurement) as well as an awareness of construction delivery and have experience of line management and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams. You are digitally savvy, can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams. You will have a construction or project management background and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
