Job Introduction

An opportunity to shape the future of the BBC

The BBC is hiring a Senior Partnership Manager in the Carriage team.

Media companies are facing challenges and opportunities like never before. Access to content and the audience’s attention has never been more competitive. If solving these challenges at one of the world’s greatest brands feels exciting then this could be the role for you.

This is an opportunity to work within one of the world’s leading content creators, partner with the most innovative and popular manufacturers and platforms, work with cutting-edge creatives and technologists – and help reinvent broadcasting for the next generation.

From the birth of radio through TV, internet, mobile and now voice and virtual reality, the BBC has been at the forefront of broadcasting for almost 100 years. The BBC is the most popular media brand in the UK and one of the most trusted around the world – and we reach 96% of the UK every week on TV, radio and online (such as via iPlayer, the number one video-on-demand service in the country).

We are looking for a talented individual passionate about the role of public service to join the Carriage team within the BBC’s Distribution and & Business Development department to help build on that success.

We particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented groups. It is vital the BBC reflects the audience it serves. If you need any adjustments to support you with your application please let us know.

Main Responsibilities
  • You will be responsible for account managing the BBC’s key distribution partnerships.
  • You will be developing and implementing the BBC’s strategic approach to the distribution of our products and services
  • You will be a role model for collaboration, inclusion and productivity

In Distribution and & Business Development, we ensure that the BBC’s public services are innovative, prominent and available to all, now and in the future. The Carriage team manages the relationships with organisations that wish to make the BBC’s products and services (e.g. BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds) available on their devices and platforms when they are released into the UK market.

We manage and plan the distribution of the BBC’s services on new and emerging digital platforms, working at the intersection of media, technology, business and strategy, providing an extraordinary environment to learn and develop your career.

We work with global technology companies (e.g. Google, Apple, Amazon) as well as pay TV platforms (e.g. Sky, Virgin, BT), TV manufacturers (e.g. LG, Samsung, Sony), audio streamers (e.g. Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn), and many more to ensure the UK audience can access the BBC effectively, the BBC can remain relevant, and our partners enjoy the full value of the organisation’s world class products and services.

We are looking for someone with skills and experience in:

  • NEGOTIATING – Identifying and securing the best deal, whoever the partner and whatever the market.
  • STRATEGY – Developing and delivering successful approaches to the evolving challenges facing media.
  • MEDIA – Working across linear TV, OTT products and services, and emerging platforms such as voice and connected cars.
Are you the right candidate?
  • COLLABORATIVE AND CONFIDENT – Adaptable, solutions-focused and know how to lead with an inclusive mindset
  • RELISH NEGOTIATING – Enjoy complex and hard-fought deal-making, solving problems and adept at working with lawyers and contracts
  • HAVE ENTHUSIASM AND EXPERTISE – An informed understanding of how technology is changing the media landscape and an ‘audience first’ mindset
  • BE INFLUENTIAL – Expert at building trusted business partnerships and savvy at stakeholder management across all levels of an organisation.
  • BE ABLE TO MAKE THE COMPLEX SIMPLE – Summarise complicated concepts with first-class presentation and writing skills
