Position Summary
We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for driving continuous Improvement and best practice within our NPI process, Manufacturing cells, Supply Chain, and Global Technical teams. The role will involve working with all stakeholders both internal and external to maximise efficiency ensuring a cost down and high-quality approach.
The work is wide-ranging and based around technical, market leading metrology products. Our product portfolio is varied and spans across multiple contact and non-contact applications and markets.
You will be joining a high performing and knowledgeable team comprising of Manufacturing Engineers, Continuous Improvement Engineers, and Operational Metrologists. We work closely and collaboratively with R&D, Business Development, Operations, Product Assembly, and our Machine Shop to support the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- To work closely with Research & Design functions ensuring products are designed for manufacture/assembly and to drive best practice during production implementation. Introduce standard operating procedures for all aspect of production and ensure process capability whist driving quality throughout
- Support the design of tooling and VAVE activities utilising SolidWorks CAD.
- Lead projects using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques to improve new and existing products, reducing costs, improving the process and quality to agreed time scales and within budget.
- Provide first class and express technical support for our production teams to ensure product quality and operational efficiency are maintained.
- Lead continuous improvement activities and Kaizen Events utilising the latest lean techniques to drive process improvement and operational objectives.
- Implement ‘Standard work’, generating & maintaining manufacturing documentation (SOP’s, Routings, “Visual Factory” displays)
- Support the Manufacturing Cells with their recording, and analysis of production data, and ensure the correct focus is placed on the main issues arising
- Implement basic improvement tools, from 6S, 8 Wastes, Visual Management and Standardised Work balanced assembly cells where single (best) piece flow philosophies are employed.
- Lead efforts in supporting our digitisation strategy, working closely with all areas of the business to drive IT and digital based solutions.
- Identify and implement process innovation throughout all manufacturing operations, both in the UK and globally, initiating improvement projects and CAPEX to enable new process and product introductions.
- Be familiar with report writing and managing your own time, to deliver programmes of work.
Essential and Desirable Skills
Required Essential Skills:
- Minimum BSc or MSc or equivalent in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or relevant discipline.
- Previous experience in working with electronic or electro/mechanical products/hardware.
- Strong knowledge and experience of Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Track record of working closely with Manufacturing cells and Research & Design.
- Experience of using problem solving techniques to resolve complex issues.
- A strong track record of delivering quality based solutions for customers.
- Significant technical & problem-solving experience in an electro-mech and manufacturing environment.
- Strong time management with a significant track record of planning/managing complex long-term projects.
- IT skills, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel at Intermediate level or higher. Jet reporting experience.
- Team player, able to work in a concurrent engineering team.
- Self-motivated and takes ownership with a proactive approach with the ability to work independently, maintaining team communication.
- Handles pressure well, with a flexible approach to work and a willingness to learn and develop.
- SolidWorks mechanical design experience and track record of VAVE project success.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of Navision Dynamics ERP/MRP system.
- Experience managing people.
- Design and Prototyping experience.
- Metrology experience.
- SolidWorks Composer experience.
- Strong presentation and communication skills to groups of 10 people or more.
