People Operations – Department Overview
Most of Sky Sports’ 1100 employees and over 600 freelancers work in content creation and production which leads to a lot of travel as well as shift working 24/7 across a large range of technical and creative skills. The Senior Manager, Sky Sports People Operations has responsibility for creating consistency and fairness in our people operations. This role is responsible for operationalising the Sky Sports People Plan as well as supporting the Sky Sports Leadership team on driving cultural change and putting our people at the heart of our operations. An integral part of the role is to effectively influence members of the Sky Sports Leadership team to balance local requirements vs departmental wide consistency and fairness. Together with a small team this role is responsible for internal comms and engagement, our working environment and supporting our peoples development
Core Responsibilities:
- Working with the leadership team and people partnering to develop and deliver a consistent people operations framework that is appropriate for our ways of working including delivery of our Inclusion Action Plan, with a focus on Managers Development.
- Responsible for an inclusive, sustainable and retentive early careers programme within Sky Sports and working with the central Early Careers Team on Content wide programmes.
- Provide operational insight into existing structures and workflows to drive cohesive decision making across the leadership team.
- Responsible for a centralised internal comms & engagement plan with a focus on growing an inclusive culture and recognising our people.
- Ensuring that our ways of working in a production and shift based environment (for example rostering practices, overtime payments etc) are fair and where appropriate consistent across the department.
- Overseeing how we engage with our freelance contractor population in a responsible manner
- Updating local policies where required, provide departmental assistance to Sky wide initiatives and deployment of any new processes or software and ensure that audited processes are kept up to date.
- Responsible for workplace development and changes, (for example office moves /£4million revamp plan for 2023). Representing Sky Sports requirements within the Sky Campus, senior partners for Sky Spaces.
What you'll bring:
- Senior stakeholder management
- Ability to translate strategic goals into tangible actions and deliver against them
- Good understanding of operational production practices helpful
- Experience in either line-managing a team or supporting the management of a large team essential
- Excellent communication skills essential
- Internal comms experience desired but not essential
- Early careers experience desired but not essential
- Experience in creating ways of working guidance documents desirable.
- Good understanding of audit processes and policies of advantage
- Experience with D&I desirable
