They will provide guidance, mentorship, and coaching to a team comprising up to 20 Project/Programme Managers, as well as oversee a matrix team that can include up to 200 members, including multiple third-party suppliers.


This role oversees a critical delivery portfolio, focusing on the delivery of critical programmes in the Global Networking and Media & Broadcast industry for BT Business.


In the capacity of a Senior Manager, this individual will shoulder the responsibility of defining and delivering critical outcomes. This includes managing initiatives with an in-year program/portfolio value of up to £50 million in development or up to £100 million in Capex.


This role is characterized by regular visibility to the CEO, underscoring its significance, and entails the expectation of providing periodic reports to senior management levels. It represents an opportunity to exhibit strong leadership skills while maintaining a professional demeanor.

What you’ll be doing
  • Inspiring - coaching a team (direct or matrix) of brilliant people to deliver a wide range of innovative and market leading Telecom products and services.
  • Leading – Mobilising and coordinating large virtual teams (Upto 200), often working with external partners and suppliers, to deliver against business objectives.
  • Influencing - Using domain and industry experience to positively affect programme/portfolio strategy and delivery
  • Planning - Ensuring that the programme/portfolio is appropriately scaled and resourced to deliver the agreed outcomes.
  • Negotiating - Interlocking scope and phasing between projects, programmes and sponsors to deliver outcomes against agreed business demand.
  • Driving - Making delivery and prioritisation decisions on a daily basis to manage level of risk. Measured on successful delivery against programme/portfolio outcomes, primarily anchored around time, cost and quality.
  • Governing – responsible for all programme/portfolio governance, including financial, budget management (for upto £100m annual budget) and financial risk management across the programme/portfolio.
  • Reporting – responsible for managing delivery risk across the programme/portfolio of work, providing valuable management reporting across the entire stakeholder base.
  • Collaborating – working across multiple teams and functions within and outwith the company, fostering relations that deliver cohesive, underpinned deliveries.
  • Communicating – working with CTIO (where appropriate) and directly with the Customer Facing Units (CFU) to set and manage expectations and become a trusted delivery partner.
  • Innovating and transforming – continually identifying opportunities to improve ways of working and delivery methodologies.

You'll have the following skills and experience

We are looking for someone with a very strong track record of major programme delivery – very experienced, ideally working at Programme Director level.
In addition you will be used to working in mixed Project Management methodologies (agile, waterfall etc)and with broadcast/networking experience.
Skills
  • Industry recognised Project Management Qualification.
  • Broad knowledge of and significant experience with Telecom products and services.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills in a challenging and political environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable with presenting at MD level.
  • Excellence in shaping and delivering programme/portfolio strategy to meet unit and company ambitions.
  • Ability to think beyond existing solutions, to challenge assumptions and existing beliefs.

Experience
  • Extensive experience in managing large, high risk/complexity programmes/portfolios to deliver market leading Telecom products and services.
  • Proven delivery expertise in Network delivery and/or Broadcasting.
  • Experience in leading medium-large (matrix and direct) teams in a large organisation
  • Significant leadership experience and management of annual budget upto £100m.
  • Extensive stakeholder experience across the business, with regular engagement upto and including CEO.
