Why this job matters
The role of Data governance is to support the roll out of the data governance framework, policy and associated standards into the Consumer business unit. As a 1st line function, the team will provide BT business units a common direction for how to govern data and improve data maturity, while also providing guidance and support to Corporate Units and Customer Facing Units.
This will help fix the foundations for Data in BT, i.e. to understand the Data we have, where it resides, what we use it for, the quality and ownership of Data. Ensure compliance with the various legal, regulatory, compliance, risk, privacy, governance and ethics requirements, while also enabling digital transformation.
What you’ll be doing
What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities
- Support the delivery of transformation initiatives across business units which the team supports including;
- Lead the work in ongoing development of new and existing BT group data standards
- Lead business units in delivery of improved data maturity through people, process, technology improvements using external frameworks such as DCAM / CDMC as best practice guide
- Define and deliver improved data literacy across BT through data management training and communications
- Partner with 2nd line of defence for data risk management to support resolution and management of data risks within appetite.
- Roll out of capabilities to support data management standards including support of data councils, metadata management, governance, data quality and data architecture.
- Lead the use of DCAM maturity model to measure data management maturity within BT, and support the delivery of roadmaps to support increased maturity
- Lead data governance councils at group wide and exec level, and collaborate with stakeholders within BT business units.

- Experience of using and applying data management best practice including use of maturity models such as DCAM/CDMC.
- Experience of working on complex multi-year, multi-stream data programmes
- Experience in the delivery of data management / data governance capabilities, such as metadata management, data quality management, data ownership.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills
- Degree level education or relevant experience as defined.
- Experience of delivery using Agile methodology
- Experience in the following technologies:
o AWS
o Dataplex
o Collibra
o JIRA
Preferred
- Knowledge of telecommunication industry and data privacy management practices
- Knowledge of data related government regulatory requirements and emerging trends and issues
