Job description
We are looking for a person with lived experience to join our Regional Pathway Development Service (PDS) in Leeds. We are a blended team of lived and occupational experts, with a focus on enabling progressive and trauma-informed journeys through secure care. Our aim is to help improve the experience and outcomes for individuals who experience the world as profoundly unsafe (often associated with the diagnostic label of a ‘personality disorder’). We work alongside inpatient and community teams for adults and young people (16 +) on a secure care pathway across the region. Changes following the introduction of Integrated Care Services (ICSs) mean that this is an exciting time to be joining the team. We operate across the region covered by the three provider collaboratives (PCs) that serve the population of West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Humber & North Yorkshire ICS.
To work alongside other team members in the PDS – The role doesn't include responsibility for the provision of ‘direct patient care’ or the management of staff or resources but contributes indirectly to patient care provided by teams referring to the PDS and may include contact with current users of those services
Advisory: To work alongside PDS team members, contributing own lived experience to all aspects of the team’s work with services. Eg. contributing another point of view on a person’s experience of using services; active involvement with team formulation and consultation work processes to facilitate thinking with a service user perspective in mind.
Quality Improvement: To be involved in the creation and delivery of training and team development, as well as service evaluation, research and audit of both the PDS and Provider Collaboratives (PCs) across the region. Eg. together with other PDS team members, gather service users' views and needs to share with the PDS and PC teams to further develop pathways; identify potential training gaps and needs with services; develop creative means of engagement in person-centred, trauma-informed, and accessible ways).
Networking: To develop and maintain connections with existing involvement leads and lived experience practitioners in services across the region: to identify, communicate and contribute to local service user involvement initiatives and projects across the region, to facilitate learning and improvement across pathways.
The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. As a teaching trust with strong links to local universities, we are a centre of excellence for teaching, research and development.
There are many benefits of working for LYPFT including fantastic employee wellbeing support, 27 - 33 days annual leave, flexible working and remote working arrangements, the NHS Pension Scheme (LYPFT pays 20.6% into your scheme each year), coaching, support and opportunities for career development and training and education support alongside a range of exclusive discounts and payment schemes including for cars, extra leave days and more organisations such as Blue Light Card, Health Service Discounts and NHS Discount Offers.
We also have an incredible bank department, offering variety of roles in nursing, allied health professions, healthcare support worker and administration clerical. Permanent employees are automatically added to bank. Bank-only workers can choose the hours they want to work and will have the opportunity to gain additional experience, keep skills up to date, develop new ones and earn extra money without having to commit to a permanent role. For an informal discussion or more information please contact the [email protected]
As aSenior Lived Experience Practitioner, you will work alongside PDS team members in an advisory, quality improvement and networking capacity. In the way that all members of the PDS bring their own perspective of a person’s journey through secure care services, you will contribute your own lived experience to support us in thinking with other teams, to develop an understanding of complex situations and questions (our advisory function). You can help us challenge our thinking and practice, as we all aim to learn from and with each other (quality improvement), which will include becoming involved in PDS service evaluation and training. You will also join us in continuing to build on our existing networks of support throughout the region, with a focus on making connections with involvement leads and lived experience practitioners across the three PCs.
We will not expect you to know it all or do it all. We are looking for somebody with a willingness to develop their knowledge and skills – someone who is enthusiastic about peer working and working with systems of care (services, teams, families), and who can reflect sensitively on their personal experience of services to inform and support others in their learning and understanding (see the Job Description for more detail – this is something to grow into, and you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills).
The PDS actively promotes and maintains a reflective, safe and supportive culture. Like all PDS colleagues, theSenior Lived Experience Practitionerwill be offered training and development opportunities, and is expected to attend regular clinical and managerial supervision, as well as reflective practice and peer support groups.
Although the PDS office base is in Leeds, the organisation has moved towards increased agile working, so the post holder may work remotely for some of the time each week. As we are a regional service, the post requires regular travel across Yorkshire and Humberside.
